Outdoorsy and Adventurous Engagement Shoot in the Pacific Northwest

Outdoorsy and Adventurous Engagement Shoot in the Pacific Northwest

via

When we think of an outdoorsy winter engagement shoot, we imagine crisp snowy scenes, bright bursts of red, and maybe some steaming mugs of hot cocoa.

We don't think a bleak, foggy day, with descending clouds and damp feet.

But as Kyle and Mikaela's Oregon engagement shoot by J Tobiason Photography shows, that can be just as beautiful, and just as romantic.

I've never been to the Pacific Northwest, but I've always been captivated by the tall trees, taller peaks, and moody vibes of the wilderness. And this engagement shoot not just captures all of that, but the spirit of an adventurous couple who are passionate about it too.

We'll pass you over to the wonderful Joe Tobiason Photography to tell us about what make this engagement shoot so special...

From The Photographer

Kyle and Mikaela's hiking engagement photos were quintessentially PNW. Beyond just being clients, these two are especially special because Mikaela is my wife and second shooter, Erika's, sister. Not only are we excited to make really fun images, but we get to invite new members into the family. Before heading south for their wedding, in Sisters, Oregon, we wanted to make images that really encapsulated the vibe of the NorthWest outdoors culture. Both Kyle and Mikaela are very outdoorsy people. They're hikers, skiers and Mikaela even worked for a non-profit that provided outdoor opportunities for people with disabilities. We headed up Rattlesnake Ridge for an afternoon shoot. As with all days before , the unofficial beginning of summer in Seattle, we really didn't know what we were getting into. While riding in the backseat of the car on the way up to the trailhead, Erika made a bouquet, head band and boutonnière for the couple. The fog was rolling in as we pulled into the parking lot. When we reached the summit, we found a beautiful view, rainbows and an almost "fairy" feel to the day. We had a few different looks and even enjoyed a bottle of bubbly. Just as we finished making the images, the sky unloaded on us. Is there anything more PNW than running down a mountain in the rain? I love these two people and am so excited to call them both family!

Wow, such atmospheric shots. I can't believe they braved that water, but it was certainly worth it, what cool pictures and amazing memories!

Thanks so much to Joe and Erika of J Tobiason Photography, and of course Mikaela and Kyle for sharing this awesome engagement shoot with us.
