20 Ways to Feature Herbs in Your Wedding

20 Ways to Feature Herbs in Your Wedding

Fragrant, chic and symbolic, we've got a lot of love for wedding day herbs.

We spoke a while back about how foliage and fruit were taking centre stage in wedding floristry, and now, herbs are joining them among the biggest new trends in matrimonial botanicals.

While you might be more au fait with adding rosemary to your gravy or mint to your mojitos, herbs can make the most lovely table decorations, wedding favours, cake adornments, or bouquet greenery.

Imagine the scent of lavender filling the room as it's used as confetti, the freshness of mint every time you come close to your bouquet, or the aroma of bay leaves greeting your guests as they take their seats for dinner.

And along with smelling heavenly, they look beautiful too. Nothing looks more chic and rustic than bundles of lavender dotted about, sprigs of rosemary look so pretty around a naked wedding cake and sage leaves are so fresh and stylish in a bridal bouquet. They're also longer lasting than your average greens, which makes them perfect for looking fresh into the wee hours of a wedding.

And ff you're looking for symbolism from your greenery, back in the day, herbs were the go-to for wedding bouquets, until Queen Victoria ( the original flower crown bride!) brought flowers into fashion with her snowdrop bouquet.

Like today's blooms, these herbs were chosen for what gifts they could bring to the couple and their marriage, thyme for courage and strength, sage for long life and wisdom, mint for hospitality, bay for glory and honour, rosemary for love and fidelity and lavender for, um, "housewifely virtue".

Still not hungry for herbs? Take a deep breath and check out these 20 ideas for featuring herbs in your wedding.
