Harvest Festival - BLOVED Blog

Can it really be September lovelies! How time flies! Summer is coming to an end and Autumn is nearly upon us. This time of year always have connotations of harvest for me. Harvest time is traditionally a time to celebrate; bringing in all the produce grown and celebrating a successful year. Once everything had been brought in, the local village and community used to hold a large dinner to celebrate and it was often a popular time for weddings within the rural community. Coming from a farming background myself, September is my favourite time of year and I love the idea of a harvest festival wedding - incorporating all the produce, colours and celebrations of harvest time.

Using muted autumnal colours, such as caramel and honey, combined with rich burnt oranges and hints of autumn berries, you can create a stunning and warm wedding palette that would work so well within a barn or orchard. You can add wheat and any seasonal produce into tablescapes and floral centrepieces and bouquets, perhaps using hops as well to add to any décor and create talking points above a grazing station, full of fruits and vegetables. Foliage chandeliers would also work well. Harvest celebrations are all about food and drink and I think you should go big on these! Think food stations, platters of goodies, flowing drinks and yumminess on an epic scale. The overall feel should be relaxed, informal and most of all fun!

Being named after Jane Austen's Emma, it is serendipitous that I would end up working in weddings. A country girl at heart, I am equally comfortable roaming the farm in my tweed, surrounded by animals or sat in a beautiful Georgian property dining on afternoon tea and sipping champagne. With a strength in organising and a flair for creativity and a passion for everything wedding related I have been lucky enough to work as a Wedding Co-Ordinator for some stunning venues across the South East. I look after the social media and am Co-Planner at Goose & Berry, luxury wedding & event planners & caterers based in London & Buckinghamshire (www.gooseandberry.co.uk) and am on hand to help you plan and design your perfect day.
