Gucci was embellished and maximalist and oh-so-cool.

Our Men's Fashion Director Jorge Valls goes to fashion weeks, scopes designers' upcoming seasons and confers with our buyers about which pieces we should carry. Do we wish we were him? Usually.

The captions in this post are Jorge's snap judgments about spring/summer 2017 collections from the recently wrapped Milan Moda Uomo. Stay tuned for his impressions of Mode à Paris, happening now.

As my friend Danny Mankin noted about the Gucci show: ironing appears to be out. Ferragamo emphasized watery blues what would be perfect by the pool, beach and in the city; Canali updated men's tailoring by mixing in luxe sportswear ideas. Brown ruled the Neil Barrett runway and felt both retro and new. Boglioli showed chic and sophisticated clothes for the well-heeled man; Versace's twist on luxe activewear included bold purple pops. Marni differentiated itself with quirky proportion plays and lots of stripes and Velcro details.
