That ponytail, deep side part or updo can be alluring on its own, but it's twice as nice when accented with the perfect accessory. At the fall 2012 ready-to-wear shows, designers crowned both straightforward and intricate hairstyles with all manner of touches, including a bejeweled headband, shooting-star comb and colored pins. Here are five of the best looks, with tips for topping your own locks for that pretty daytime twist or that special-occasion party.
MADONNA ROCKS

Why you want it: A Baroque-style headband gives even the most minimal hairstyle plenty of high-class flash. All of the elements are simple, explains hairstylist Guido Palau of his Dolce & Gabbana creation. If left alone, the soft center parting and seemingly thrown-together knot would be something to wear any day of the week. But then Palau piles on the jewels: a bauble-heavy headband and, in some cases, randomly placed barrettes festooned with lace, pearls, ceramic flowers and swirling gold leaves. "The inspiration for this look was based on Madonna and the idea of this religious icon," Palau says. "It's very simple hair with very beautiful embellishments."

Roughed-up texture and stray bits give the French twist an "upscale but undone" feel, according to hairstylist Eugene Souleiman. And just when you thought this creation couldn't get any more chic, Souleiman slips on a dainty headband and lines the roll at the back with a row of jeweled clips.
