Your Ultimate Guide to Marsala Cheeks

Your Ultimate Guide to Marsala Cheeks

A deep brick red, Pantone's 2015 Color of the Year, marsala, is inspired by wine. While the rich color might seem pretty bold as a blush for many skin tones, it's actually quite wearable.

Since it's a mix between red and brown, with a touch of plum, the color can work nicely with most complexions, depending on how and where it's applied.

Rather than creating a pink, rosy glow, this red can be used somewhat like a bronzer to both define bone structure and add a flush.

In general, those with lighter complexions should apply the sheerest of marsala blushes, stick to the outside of cheeks and cheekbones and blend well. Get this look with shades like NYX Cosmetics Powder Blush in Bordeaux, L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in Coral Lift or Giorgio Armani Beauty Cheek Fabric in 200.

Those with darker skin tones can play with more robust, pigmented formulas. Try L'Oréal Paris True Match Naturale Blush in Sugar Plum or Lancôme Blush Subtil in Shimmer Plum Charm.

For a fun day look, wear marsala to highlight cheeks and leave the eyes and lips neutral. Or, for a bolder look, match a sheer cheek with a more vibrant marsala lip.
