Italy is one of our favourite countries to visit so it's no surprise that bride's chose it as a destination wedding location. Surrounded by vineyards, beautiful architecture and the wonderful food and drink, it's no wonder today's couple Emer and John chose it for their big day. These images from Wedding Sparrow favourite Katie Julia really show the beauty of the surroundings as well as the couple's beautiful pops of colour in their wedding design...

From Katie Julia: "Emer & John's wedding has to be one of my favourites from 2014. I could not have wished for more as a photographer as I was surrounded by such beauty and such a welcoming family. Emer and her sisters are so naturally beautiful too it really made my job very easy! I thought that Emer's colour choice was extraordinarily authentic and unique especially the red Jim Hjelm bridesmaids dresses (wow!) mixed with the pink bouquet. This is the first time i've ever seen red dresses and pink flowers work so well together! It is always a very intimate occasion as a photographer to be there capturing the most important moments in a couple's lives, and I felt so blessed to be able to share it with such an amazing group of people in one of the most stunning venues I have ever seen! Villa Catureglio really is something else! I also realised how much fun Irish weddings are and even I ended up dancing under the stars after I had finished work! It was truly magical!"

From Emer (the bride): " John and I planned our entire wedding from Australia. We met at university 11 years ago and began dating a few months after we met. Following graduation we moved in to our first home together in Edinburgh, Scotland. In August 2011 we decided to move to Australia and John proposed in a vine yard in New Zealand while we were touring the country in a campervan.

From the moment John proposed we talked about getting married away from home. We both love the sunshine and wanted a warm, fun and informal wedding where everyone could relax and enjoy themselves. We also wanted a small wedding, where all the guests would be close family and friends and we knew we would could truly celebrate with them." "Australia was never suggested as a destination for our wedding as the majority of our family and friends were back in Ireland. We chose Italy, not only because it is a beautiful country, with fabulous weather but also because it is easily accessible from Ireland and we would be able to have both the marriage and party there rather than having to have the ceremony at home and then travelling to Italy for the celebrations. A few months after we got engaged John was flying to France for a friends wedding so we decided that he, along with his groomsman, would go on a wedding planning tour of Italy and chose the venue. From trolling the internet I had selected 6 venues across Italy for John and Paddy (best man) to visit. I booked them both flights to Rome and a hire car and off they went. From the outset Catureglio was our favourite. The reviews and photos from previous wedding are amazing and with the sealed approval of John and Paddy, the venue was booked!" "Everything for the wedding was picked based purely on us loving it rather than fitting a theme. The bridesmaid's dresses were red as they were so beautiful on my sisters, when they tried them on in this colour that I could not have imagined them in any other colour. The flowers were pink, clashing slightly with the bridesmaids but were so gorgeous I didn't mind. We decided on one large table for the wedding breakfast as everyone there was our nearest and dearest and we wanted everyone to be included. Our first dance was to 'Hey Jude' the song we first kissed to back in university. It was preformed by my brother in law, Conor. John had arranged for Conor to sing as a surprise for me. This was my favourite moment of the entire wedding day. During our first dance John and I looked up to see that all our friends and family had joined us and everyone was dancing away in the courtyard lit only by fairy lights."
