Maxine & Ryan's Zambia Wedding - Wedding Friends

Maxine & Ryan's Zambia Wedding - Wedding Friends

via

Scotland came to Zambia! Destination weddings can be a challenging event to organize, especially if you are thousands of kilometers away. Macine and Ryan recently got married at the River Club Lodge in Zambia and by the look of the images, it seemed to be a glamorous event. Their choice of Photographer was Rensche Mari Photography who captured the day in a remarkable fashion. Although the couple got married in the bush they added an elegant flair to every detail and the contrast between the bush and elegance is quite appealing. Enjoy today's post with us!

Lovebirds | How did you two meet?

We met on a night out in Edinburgh, Scotland. I was out with the girls and Ryan was out
with his Rugby team after having won a game that day. My friend fancied one of his
mates and so I was acting as wing woman for her. We all ended up in a casino where I got
chatting to Ryan. I really wasn't interested at first but his cheeky charm soon got the better
of me! I remember him asking me for my number and when I refused he told me "For
Gods sake woman, I'm not asking for a marriage, I just want your number!" I gave him
my number and he asked me on a date the next day. Three years later we were engaged!

I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?

We were on holiday in Livingstone, Zambia visiting my family. It was Ryan's first time
there. We booked a trip with my family to Livingstone Island, situated right on the edge
of the Victoria Falls. Ryan had asked my Dads permission on a camping trip in Chobe
National Park a few days earlier. I didn't realize but my Dad had sneakily packed a bottle
of champagne as he had Ryan had discussed that was the place he was going to do it. My
Dad asked Ryan and I to go stand on the edge near the Falls so he could take a picture.
Once we were in position Ryan dropped to one knee. There was a big rainbow behind us!

The Big Day | Tell us the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

For me it was the moment I walked down the isle to a live violin playing Pachelbel's
Canon and catching my future husbands eyes for the first time. I could see him fighting
the tears and when he turned to his best men for a bit of manly support, they too were all
emotional. We tied the knot on a small sandy island in the middle of the Zambezi river
surrounded by hippos and a herd of elephant that had come down to drink across the
River from us. We had hay bails as seats and wicker hearts dangling from old tree
branches which we'd stuck in the sand for our alter. It was a simple ceremony in a perfect
setting!

I Quote | Describe in one sentence your wedding day

I would say that our wedding was rustic but elegant with elements of shabby chic and a
slight African twist.

Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides

Try not to get too caught up in all the minor details and enjoy your time being a Fiance,
and remember on the big day that things never go exactly to plan but don't let that stress
you out - Remember what the day is actually about. Make sure you start dress shopping
as soon as possible so you've got plenty of time for alterations etc. Buy yourself some
herbal calms or some kind of sleeping aid so you get a good nights sleep the night before
- your mind races and its really hard to switch off. One regret I had was not having a
videographer - I think it can really capture the atmosphere of the day. On the day
remember to take a breath and take it all in, its over in a flash!
