How do you make a relationship last?

That seems to be the age-old question. Actually, I'll change that. How do you make a relationship last AND still enjoy the ride? Or, if you're single, what types of qualities should you look for in a potential partner when seeking a long-term, loving relationship? Sure, these answers probably change from couple to couple since everyone has their own set of wants and needs. But I bet there are some common threads.

While Quarterlette is usually a place to hear from other millennial women about how they are navigating their lives, for this question we needed to go straight to the source: a couple who has been together for many, many years.

To do that, I recently had the opportunity to sit down with my Grandparents Ruth and Jerry Greenspan who are coming up on their 70th wedding anniversary in December. Just thinking about that number makes my head spin! 70 years? Don't get me wrong, I'm 100 percent the type of woman who supports monogamy, marriage and finding that best friend who you can spend a lifetime with. But 70 years of anything is a major accomplishment.

In our technologically modern world where people post their relationship highlight reels on social media and can meet potential romantic interests by swiping right, I think it's easy to lose sight of what's important when it comes to a relationship. I hope this interview simply, and sweetly, reminds us what love is really all about.
