We love hearing from our panel of beauty pros about the latest and greatest beauty tricks. Today, we're lucky enough to hear from New York-based makeup pro Ashley Rebecca on how to blend makeup like a pro!

There's nothing worse than leaving your house for work, only to take a quick peek in the mirror and see one of the most dreaded makeup mishaps: a foundation line. While time can get the best of us in the morning, there are a few things you can do to make sure you're blending your makeup properly. Say goodbye to caked-on foundation and makeup streaks. This simple guide will help you make sure you're blending your makeup the right way.

1. Hydrate
Before applying any makeup, you need to make sure your skin is nice and hydrated to allow for the smoothest application. Applying foundation to dry skin can sometimes highlight patchiness and unevenness. Massage a moisturizer or facial oil into the skin every morning to ensure a nice and smooth base.

2. Know Your Tools
While fingers are a common choice to blend makeup in a rush, I highly recommend using a foundation brush or beauty blender to ensure you get a clean and even blend. Applying makeup with your fingers will just move the product around on the skin, but blending with a brush or sponge with short, gentle strokes enables you more control and less makeup application or retouching. One of the most common places to get uneven makeup marks or lines is right along the jaw. Make sure you give this area a once-over with a blender or brush and you can even apply a little foundation on the neck to balance out your skin tone.

3. Check Yourself
Find yourself some natural light. Bathroom lighting can sometimes cast a haze on our skin, making it difficult to see if our makeup matches our skin or if it has been perfectly blended. Natural light allows you to spot inconsistencies, and fix them without having to start all over again. If you have no natural light in your house, keep a foundation brush in your makeup bag, and buff out any imperfections once you find some good lighting.
