We're getting all dreamy down by the sea this afternoon. A little escapism away to breezy beautiful coastal wedding ideas.

Inspired by Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid" the wonderful team behind this shoot created a blissful atmosphere. With beautiful boho feel attire, mismatched details and wild blooms.

"Inspiration for this shoot came from one of my favourite classic fairy tales, Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid". It's one of the most romantic stories of selfless love with sombre and joyous tones interwoven so beautiful you can't help but cry when reading it. All the suppliers involved in this inspiration shoot I asked to take ideas for colour and theme from the story as well as use illustrations by Edmund Dulac as inspiration too. That's were the, loose, choice of colours came from; murky golds, vintage creams, colours like sea foam, and faded royal blues and greens. I didn't want there to be an everything matches feeling, so instead we paired lots of pieces together, both clothing and also the chinaware as provided by Devon Vintage China.The flowers were provided by Elsie Mo Flowers. As this shoot was in March, and Elsie uses locally sourced and seasonal flowers as much as possible, the result was both creative, delicate, and wild all at the same time. They worked perfectly with the look and feel of what I was trying to achieve with the shoot. In the bridal bouquet, large magnolia flowers were the main feature and with the other bouquet, I asked for reds taking inspiration straight from a passage in the story about the garden the little mermaids keeps under the sea.The stationery was made as a bespoke piece just for the shoot by Danielle ay Faithful Designs. The invite is mounted on hessian which all folds in on itself to be tied up with a little shell with gold leaf on top. She also made place settings and a menu to match.The cake was by Balderdash and Bunting and Becky worked to create something unusual that reflected the sea and again took inspiration from the Edmund Dulac illustrations of the Little Mermaid.The dresses and grooms outfit were provided and styled by the ever talented Emma at Elegantly Waisted. We spent ages going through her vast collection and she came up with several outfits that work well as bridal wear with a unique vintage feel.The beautiful lace dress is a 1950s full skirted handmade dress, with a scallop neckline and beaded under slip. The accessories were gold lurex cropped 50s gloves, gold and silver leather ballroom dancing shoes (50s/60s) and a vintage gold leather belt. Also in a few of the shoots of this first look she also wears a 1950s bracelet sleeve champagne mink coat. The groom had on 1960s black military trousers with white pin-tucked bow tie dress shirt and Mustard Victorian American Marching Band Jacket.The second look for the groom was (shirt as above) a 1960s single breasted satin lapel suit. Bride wore a bias cut jaquard halter-neck vintage gown with dupion silk inserts in the hem to create a fishtail, shoes as before and the veil was an antique silk sari with gold bullion and lace detail. The headpiece was a headband Emma created from a 1940s paste necklace and the belt is striped silk fabric with 1950s buckle.The last look for the Bride was a deconstructed peach 1930s lace under slip with a heavily beaded netted 20s kaftan on top in peach, shoes as before and headdress was a beaded belt, handbag is modern beaded by Wallis.Laura Elston did a fantastic job at bringing to life my image of an ethereal beauty with hint of otherworldliness about her. We didn't want the mermaid connection to be obvious, but I still loved the idea of representing scales. She used gold leaf flakes around Harriet's brow line and worked with a pallet of golds and browns for the eyes. Lips were glossy and neutral to bring the attention to the eyes. For her hair, Laura made several small fish tail braids and pinned some bits back while leaving others loose. As the photographer, I wanted a place that felt full of magic to shoot in, so we walked (with all our kit and set up!) down to a little cove off the south coast of Devon. There is a little ruin at the end which juts into the sea and the water was a beautiful blue turquoise colour. It was just perfect and was a joy to shoot until the sun set. I wanted the images to be full of this magic, be ethereal but with an edge. Untameable Beauty, strong and delicate at the same time, like the sea."
