Susanne and Doug like to keep things spontaneous. "We were sitting at a family dinner one Sunday evening and we were all talking about our summer plans. Out of the blue Doug and I said to everyone 'How about we have a wedding this summer?'" recalls Susanne.

While their engagement was rather abrupt, a lot of careful planning went into the couple's wedding day. Since Doug is Scottish, the couple decided to work his mother's tartan into the wedding. The tartan ended up being the same colour blue as the bridesmaid's dresses, which worked perfectly to help dictate the colour palette for the entire day.

The couple had a simple, intimate ceremony, a stone's throw from the water's edge at Inverness County Centre for the Arts. This same venue served as the couple's reception space. Crisp, white linens and sunflowers topped the tables while white paper lanterns were hung from the ceiling for the celebration. Guests were treated to a BBQ buffet-style dinner featuring locally-sourced ingredients.

"Following dinner the sunset took centre stage. It was so captivating we delayed the toasts so everyone could take it in together," says Susanne.
