1930s Glamour Poirot Bridal Ideas | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

This afternoon is dedicated to drama, decadence and pure unadulterated glamour.

Jewellery designer Sarah Drew wanted to showcase her newest collection in a Poirot inspired shoot. Set at Fowey Hall Hotel, 1930s inspired bridal looks worked beautifully on the models donning custom made dresses. There were stunning florals, a sweet appearance by the hotel dog and wellies galore.

So many wonderful bridal hair, make up and styling ideas.

Thanks goes to Lucy Turnbull for sharing her wonderful photographs with us, here is what Sarah Drew had to say about the shoot;

"Murder at Fowey Hall Hotel...Pushing open the heavy wooden door and stepping into the panelled hallway of Fowey Hall Hotel with its crackling fire, scent of lilies and wood polish on the air and big, inviting sofas really does feel like stepping right into an episode of Poirot. You can just imagine him perched in the lounge delicately sipping tea, observing everyone carefully...I'm a jewellery and accessory designer and my love of Poirot, Schiaperelli and the laid-back glamour of the thirties have influenced my collection of golden vintage headdresses for 2014. I've combined stiffened gold lace with antique enamelled brooches in warm colours, old diamante and warm vintage pearls crocheted to produce eclectic, textured headdresses that can quite easily be worn after the wedding. I love going to local vintage fairs to find old lace collars, antique kid gloves, vintage velvet millinary flowers to transform into asymmetric headdresses that are definitely unique. For this collection, I also used applique pieces of vintage silk scarves, attached to lace to provide soft colour on the headdresses and cuffs: these coupled with long silver and pearl chains provide a very languid, bohemian look.The comfortable glamour of Fowey Hall Hotel fitted in perfectly with my new collection: it's a very peaceful place where you feel you can relax. It's got that laid-back country house feel with eclectic pictures, mismatching sofas and lovely old wood. You don't feel on edge, worrying about making a mess: you just feel like reading the paper in front of the fire all day! The hotel definitely inspired a rather moody, Agatha Christie mood for the shoot, with the very talented Lucy Turnbull photography capturing the historical feel perfectly.Lucy works quickly and unobtrusively to capture natural, richly hued images that have a very vintage feel. She's good at noticing all the lovely textures and details of weddings, appreciating quality fabrics, light catching on crystal and the real meaning and mood of how people feel on the day.The soft, flowing lines of the dresses from One Bridal, handmade to order in a lovely little stone studio/boutique in nearby Charlestown , help set the languid, elegant mood. They sell off the peg dresses from designers such as Linea Raffealli but have been asked more and more to make bespoke gowns, like the ones featured here, to suit each bride and fit really well. Lynn owns One Bridal and works together with her mother, Angela, who has been steadily creating a collection of dresses inspired by Edwardian and deco eras in soft laces, heavy crepes that hang beautifully with comfortable under-dresses and proper vintage trims.Make-up artist and hairdresser Neila Dawes used her extensive West End theatre experience to calmly create dark, smouldering eyes and dark berry lips on our beautiful models Kayleigh Sweet and Jen Cohen, with soft waves for their hair based on 30s film stars and performers of the era such as Jean Harlow and Josephine Baker.Wild at Heart Country Flowers are a florist based in Callington working with mostly local flowers in natural arrangements: they created a beautiful spring bouquet for us, with soft creamy roses, lilac tulips, pale green foliage and darling little grey feathers.We had a great day at Fowey hall, pretending to be in a Agatha Christie story, creating very English country house style pictures complete with a starring role for the hotel dog Bramble, and obligatory wellies!"
