Liz & Aaron | Rainy Day Wedding at Madison’s Memorial Union

I hope my hubby is reading this post, because today’s wedding took place at one of his favorite places on earth: University of Wisconsin’s Memorial Union. As the bride says, “The student union is in the heart of the University of Wisconsin campus, and feels like it has been our home for the last ten years. We sailed together on the UW Sailing Team and had all our practices and meetings right there on Lake Mendota at the Union. We have spent every weekend since graduation meeting on the Terrace with friends, sailing out of the Hoofers sailing club, and enjoying all that the Union has to offer. It felt like the ideal place to join our lives together.”

“During the ceremony, we brought elements of Judaism and the Lutheran faith together to create an awesome interfaith wedding that represented us as a couple.”

Despite the rainy weather, Liz and Aaron couldn’t miss the opportunity for wedding portraits on the Union Terrace.

The bride’s bouquet included hydrangea, tulips, and roses in cream and yellow.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?  We wanted to plan a guest-centered event that brought our friends and two families together for a weekend of fun in the city we shared for the last ten years. Knowing we came from different backgrounds, we tried to incorporate both of our upbringings throughout the ceremony and festivities.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day?  Liz: I enjoyed the time after the ceremony and before the reception when we took pictures with the wedding party. It was nice to relax a little and enjoy the company of our best friends! // Aaron: Liz and I were the last ones to leave the reception. We couldn’t get a cab back to the hotel, so we walked from the Union to the hotel, up State Street, right through the heart of Madison. We walked slowly, just talking. It was like we were in our own little world in the city we grew together in. It was pretty magical.

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  Take time to enjoy the day with just the two of you, even if it is just for a minute. Look into each other’s eyes and take in the best day of your lives – together!
