Fun & Playful Outdoor Music Inspired Wedding - Whimsical...

WWW readers James and Kate were married back in the Summer and chose the stunning Birtsmorton Court in Worcestershire to host their day. They hoped to create a playful atmosphere where their guests had fun. All of the lovely details were inspired by music, complete with with cassette place names, band table namese and song lyrics on wooden signs. Their outdoor ceremony was beautifully decorated too, with lanterns in the trees and a swoon worth floral arch.

Now let's talk about that dress. Kate chose a Caroline Castigliano lace fishtail number with chic veil. Oh my did she look drop dead gorgeous. I love the evening antics, the stylish attire and all of those happy moments captured throughout.

Thanks so much to the fantastic Simon Dewey for sharing these photographs with us.

THE PROPOSAL | James proposed on the balcony of a luxury tree house in the blue mountains in Australia during a visit to see Kate's university friend in November 2014. Video link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl6W1gdNF6Y

THE VISION | We knew exactly where we wanted to get married after attending a wedding at Birtsmorton Court in 2013 which is close to Worcester where we both grew up. We were blown away by how beautiful the venue was with all the stunning flowers. So it was just a matter of finding a date as it was all quite late notice for 2015. We also wanted to ensure we delivered a fun wedding as we have a very playful relationship, so it was a case of trying to incorporate some entertaining ideas while keeping an element of class.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I (Kate) do Account Management as a career so organisation is something I excel at. The key was keeping a spreadsheet with all things wedding and keeping on top of budgets/timelines. First off, we sorted a date for the wedding, registrar and the dress as this can sometimes take 6 months when being tailor-made. Once these bits were in place, we tackled all the suppliers we wish to use... everything from flowers, photography to pizza vans and silent discos.

BUDGET | £35,000

THE VENUE | Birtsmorton Court. Ceremony was in the White Gardens.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress and veil from Caroline Castigliano in Knightsbridge, London.

FINDING THE DRESS | My mum came down to London before she headed on her travels for a month, so we had 2 days to find THE dress as she was adamant she wanted to be there. I booked 6 shopping appointments and the quality of Caroline Castigliano's dresses blew us away (along with the prices and not in a good way!), they were head and shoulders above everything else we had seen. I tried on a variety of different styles in case there was something that suited me better than what I always imagined I would wear. I ended up falling in love with an ivory lace fishtail dress, strapless with a sweetheart front, covered in tiny pearls. My maid of honour, mum and I all cried once the veil was added, which was a single layer, soft mesh.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | James wore a blue suit from Ted Baker with matching waistcoat and a dusty pink floral tie (to sync in with the colour scheme), brown shoes and woven brown belt.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We wanted the ceremony to be fun so had our dog bearing the rings, wearing a collar and bow tie which synced with the other groomsmen. My mum made a beautiful lace ring cushion for him to wear when walking down the aisle.

We had 2 songs for everyone to sing along to during the service; 'You and Me song' by the Wannadies and 'Sweet Child O Mine' by Guns n Roses.

Readings were 'A Good Wedding Cake' by anonymous.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 7 bridesmaids, all different shapes and sizes, different hair colour and skin tones which made it difficult to decide on one dress for all. It was important to me that they were all comfortable in what they were wearing and felt amazing, so I let them all choose their own dresses. The criteria I gave them was 'Blush and knee length'. Off the back of this, they would send me photos of different ideas they had and I would veto or give them the nod.

THE FLOWERS | Floral Roundabout in Worcester. They really listened to what I wanted and I was blown away by the flower arrangements on the tables in the marquee and the ceremony. An array of beautiful ivories and pinks with lime green foliage... lots of different flowers with different textures and shapes.

THE CAKE | We didn't have one as neither of us like cake or traditions.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Simon Dewey. We started looking at different photography sites in the Midlands and the styles seemed very similar - static, frozen moments. Instead, we wanted to capture memories and tell a story of our day which is exactly what Simon Dewey offered. He was professional, he listened and delivered exactly what we wanted in rapid speed (photos were ready for us on returning from honeymoon!)

THE DETAILS | Due to a late ceremony we had pre-ceremony drinks on the venue lawns, followed by the ceremony in the white gardens where we had a civil ceremony and wrote our own vows. We had a music themed wedding with cassette place names, our favourite bands as table names, drinking games per table and song lyrics on old wooden signs dotted about the place. We hung different sized paper lanterns from trees, put up fairy lights and placed lanterns all in the garden. We had champagne and raspberries on the terrace of the 13 th century building overlooking the lake and moat with a string quartet playing modern rock songs. After the speeches which were both emotional and very funny (my dad, James and his best man), we brought out a fancy dress bag per table and said that everyone had to be wearing something. Included were blow up horse costumes, lion onesies, animal masks, inflatables, giant glasses and plenty of music themed props such as tattoo sleeves, facial hair, rock wigs, microphones, chains, saxophones and face paints. The band began shortly after, playing mostly swing and rock. We had our first dance to Ray La Montagne, James wearing a black rockers wig and me wearing a horses head, not being able to see a thing. The pizza van looked fantastic and were delicious, surprising how hungry everyone still is only an hour after the wedding breakfast has finished! The silent disco started when the band curfew came in to play at 11.30, a perfect way to extend the night without upsetting anyone. We paid extra to keep the bar open an additional hour to compensate for the late wedding service.

THE HONEYMOON | We knew we wanted to travel and have a few days to relax in luxury somewhere so we chose to fly to Vegas to see the Grand Canyon, hire a convertible and travel through LA through to San Fran for 10 days. From there we then flew to Turks and Caicos to spend a week surrounded by white sands and turquoise waters.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | James meeting Steve Adler from Guns n Roses in Whiskey Go Go in LA, visiting Muscle beach where James got to work out, riding the convertible up the coast, going BIG on the roulette in Vegas and finding out I'm now pregnant expecting our first child while we were road tripping - that was a pretty big moment :-)

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Start your wedding day as early as possible, ours was a late wedding at 3.30pm (due to registrars not having any other availability) but really stretch out your day as we were very rushed for time. Also make sure you arrange something for the day after so you get to prolong the celebrations and get all the gossip from the day! Make a concerted effort to have group photos taken, I asked to not do anymore after a couple as I just wanted to enjoy the day and we not don't have enough which is a pity as would have been great to frame.
