Awards season is upon us. Although we are huge movie buffs, we're even bigger fans of designer evening gowns. As we wait to see what the stars will be wearing to the Golden Globes and Oscars, we've set about obsessing over the possibilities with the aid of two Nordstrom Designer Evening Collection buyers, Jennifer Walker and Sahar Sokhandan. They were happy to engage in a fun game of "what if" and "who should wear."

The Golden Globes (Sunday, Jan. 10 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on NBC) are up first. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's awards show usually serves to indicate who the real Oscar contenders are and also affords celebrities an opportunity to party hard in fancy duds. Here's what the two buyers are hoping to see happen this year, sartorially speaking, for Amy Schumer, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence and more.

How is the Golden Globes different from the Oscars?

Walker: I would have to say Carol. Cate Blanchett is such an amazing actress; it is impressive to watch.

Sokhandan: Spotlight. I love films that make you step back and reflect. The film was both moving and thought-provoking.

Which actresses and actors are you most excited to see on the Golden Globes red carpet?

Walker: I find the Golden Globes so much more exciting and real. You get to see the actors interacting with each other, which creates such a unique show every time.

Sokhandan: Well the Golden Globes awards both film and television whereas the Oscars only award films. The Globes tend to be less serious and more fun than the Oscars in my opinion. Plus, who doesn't love a little song and dance from Ricky Gervais!

What is the key to well-fitting formal wear?

Walker: Rooney Mara because she always looks so chic, and of course Jennifer Lawrence because everyone is going to be waiting to see if she might fall again.

Sokhandan: My all-time faves Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchett. They can do no wrong in my opinion.

Which designers' collections are you most excited to see on celebrities this season? Any particular dresses you've seen at market or on the runway you hope to see this awards season?

Walker: The key is love the dress and feel good about yourself in it. Equally as important is alterations. Alterations. No gown will fit anyone perfectly without alterations (movie star or not!).

Sokhandan: First and foremost, you have to feel comfortable in the dress or gown... feeling beautiful and confident is key. Secondly, alterations are your best friend! You always want to make sure your dress or gown fits so that it accentuates your best assets.

If you could personally dress any actress who would it be?

Walker: Valentino, Givenchy, Marchesa, Dior and Monique Lhuillier have been my personal favorites this season. I have been in love with this Marchesa gown (pictured) and I hope we get to see it this awards season!

Sokhandan: Valentino, Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Elie Saab and Marchesa are always my personal favorites both on and off the runway! Award season is literally my favorite time of year as it marries my love for fashion with my addiction to film and
television! Let the countdown begin!

Flash round: which designer would you put this nominated actress in: Jennifer Lawrence?

Walker: Rooney Mara for sure! She's so chic.

Cate Blanchett?

Sokhandan: Cate Blanchett... such a timeless beauty!

Rooney Mara?

Walker: Dior
Sokhandan: Valentino

Melissa McCarthy?

Walker: Marchesa
Sokhandan: Dior

Amy Schumer?

Walker: Givenchy
Sokhandan: Givenchy

Maggie Smith?

Sokhandan: Carolina Herrera

Whose acceptance speech of the above would be best?

Walker: Zac Posen
Sokhandan: Stella McCartney

Sokhandan: Chanel

What are you wearing to watch the Golden Globes, or what would you wear?

Walker: Melissa McCarthy would be hilarious.

Sokhandan: Amy Schumer would be beyond hysterical!

SHOP: designer eveningwear

Walker: I would wear this!

Sokhandan: What I will be wearing at my viewing party: Oscar de la Renta floral matelassé strapless dress.
