How To: Wash Your Makeup Brushes the Right Way

Be honest, when was the last time you washed your makeup brushes? If it's been over a month, get to scrubbin'! We've heard some horror stories, and if you're not cleaning your brushes regularly, think of all the dirt, oil, dead skin cells and bacteria you're swiping onto your skin daily. Yikes! Not sure how to do it right? Take a look below!

Supplies:
  • A shallow bowl
  • Baby shampoo or anti-bacterial soap
  • Lukewarm water
  • Small hand towel
Directions:

Step 1: Pour a cup of lukewarm water into your shallow bowl. Then, squeeze a dime-sized amount of baby shampoo into the palm of your hand.

Step 2: With your hand over the bowl, dip the head of the brush into the water and then swirl it into the dollop of shampoo that's in your hand.

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 and continue to swirl the brush in the palm of your hand until the water from the brush runs clear.

Step 4: Once you've washed all of your brushes, lay them flat on a towel - not upright in a cup - so that water does not reach the part of the brush where the handle meets the head. This can cause the glue to loosen and your brush head to break off.

Now that your brushes are clean, check out our ultimate makeup tutorial for inspo!
