The 6 Hottest Hair Trends This Fall, According to a Pro

Here at MDC, we are lucky enough to have a panel of experts to sound off on those topics that leave the everyday girl scratching her head. Today, for example, we asked hair guru Zachary Morad to shed some light on the hot hair trends for fall!

This fall, we'll be seeing some major change in the hair department. The '90's trends that inspired us over the past year are shifting to mirror the early millennium in both beauty and fashion. What we will begin to see manifesting is a more artsy take on beauty, particularly hair. The once-dominant beach-waved ombré hair styles will be put on the back burner as we transition to a world of deep colors, sleek styles and foundation-based cuts. Check out the six trends that will reign supreme in the harvest season.

Classic Updos With a Twist

We're starting to see hair worn up much more these days and, as foreshadowed on the couture runways of Paris, the updo trend will definitely develop further into the fall. Classic hairstyles like braided updos and soft French twists will be upgraded and dressed up with barrettes, headbands and scarves.

Stick-Straight

In the fall, smooth, straight hair will be embraced and enhanced by sharp layered cuts that lend texture and shine. And remember to go for the slightly imperfect, "bedhead" look! To get the style, lightly run a flat iron through your hair before going to bed. Pull your hair into a loose bun on top of your head, leaving the ends out. When you wake up, let your hair down, run your fingers through it and part as desired. Add a little texturizing powder or spray (try Shu Uemura Texture Wave) to the roots to give your straightened 'do some fullness and body.

Autumn Hues

Recently, we've seen an interesting trend hit the scene in which colorists are taking golden auburns and blondes and combining them with deep brown shades, creating a tortoise shell or "bronde" effect. The lighter colors reflect light and brilliantly shine, lending a fresh take on multi-dimensional tones.

Dark Depths

Oftentimes, we see dramatic changes occur as the seasons shift. Last winter, we saw raw platinum blondes reign supreme as we transitioned into spring. Just as quickly as this trend rose in popularity, it now makes its exit and is being replaced by deep, dark brown and black hair colors. Featuring red or blue undertones, these new violet browns and raven-like emerald tones are making quite an entrance and adding a fresh new depth of color.

Cropped Cuts

Women are continuing to opt out of lengthy looks and trying shorter, more structured cuts. The big trend for fall is a choppy, textured bob! Featuring sleek, spiky layers and lightweight texture, it complements all face shapes and most hair types! If you're looking for a change, this is your chance!

Shaggy Layers

The subtle, long layers we saw last season have officially left the building. The new style on the block has more edge and versatility and I love It! Choppy, shagged ends were once reserved for shorter layers and razors, but today the look has become simplified and stylish. Whether sitting straight or with a bit of texture the long shaggy strands we've lately seen on the likes of Kim Kardashian is exactly what we've been waiting for!
