How Do Beauty Editors REALLY Look When They Wake Up?

Because of our immersion in all things beauty (and access to super-cool products), there's an unspoken expectation that beauty editors have their makeup and hair on point at all times. Unfortunately, that's just not our reality. We three editors here at Makeup.com each have different skin tones, issues and hair types that we deal with daily and that affect our beauty routines. This is especially evident in the morning when we wake up and prepare to take on the world. Want to hear and see us in our most vulnerable (and half-awake) states? Check out what a typical morning looks like for a Makeup.com editor!

Jessyca: "The first thing I do in the morning is hop in the shower. Other than that, my morning routine has several variations depending on (a) how I feel and (b) what time I dragged myself out of bed. I can have no makeup one day, a completely done face the next, and yet on other days maybe I'll put on a little mascara and lip gloss. It just depends!"

Angela: "My big issue in the morning is my hair. No matter how much I prep, braid or brush the night before, I always seem to wake up looking a bit Medusa-ish. Most of my morning beauty routine is dedicated to getting my mane back to a normal state. As far as skin and makeup goes, I always give my face a good wash (or double-wash) with a tea-tree-oil-infused cleanser, since my skin is oily and prone to acne. I keep makeup pretty minimal for work days, and typically mix a little SPF in with my BB cream and apply concealer to blemishes and under-eye areas. Then I'll dab a little cream blush, swipe on some mascara and go about my business."

Diana: "Ugh, mornings. I'm pretty open about not being a morning person, which is why I don't step foot in the office without a quick visit to Starbucks first! In order to snag a few extra minutes of snooze time, I like to shower and style my hair at night so that I can wake up and not have to worry about what to do with it. Otherwise, you know I'm going to be late! When it comes to my morning makeup routine, brows and lashes are my time-consumers, but they are the two things that make me feel like I'm ready to step out into public! Add on a light swipe of bronzer and some shimmery, peachy blush and I'm pretty much good to go. After spending what feels like forever trying to pick out an outfit, of course ... "
