Creative Colourful Mexican Feel Outdoor Wedding - Whimsical...

You may recognise these gorgeous newly weds from their vintage fair engagement shoot I featured back in 2013. It's always so lovely to catch up with a couple and share their wedding celebration, especially when it is just as gorgeous as this.

Louise and Ben were married on Saturday 13 th September 2014 at Nether Winchendon House in Buckinghamshire. They held their humanist ceremony outdoors beneath a beautiful Willow tree and had a great big barn party to follow. There were fun and games and a Mexican feel complete with Tacos, a colour explosion and sweet DIY décor.

Louise is a baker at A Little Piece of Cupcake and her wedding cake table was a total triumph. Let's not forget those blooms by The Flower Fairies, which were just something else. Swoon. Ben wore a pale grey suit by Next teamed with peach bow tie while Louise looked stunning in lace with flowers in her hair.

Huge thanks today goes to the utterly brilliant Binky Nixon Photography for sharing her photographs.

THE PROPOSAL | We got engaged in Goa in December 2012, it was so special, on a rickety bridge over a lake, with both his hands held into fists, he told me to choose a hand - Ben is a bit of a pranker, and always tries to scare me so I was a bit worried as it would probably be a cockroach or something horrid, but no, he got down on one knee and proposed! It was such a surprise! We kissed and turned around to be greeted by an explosion of fireworks - that Ben had not organised, it was just perfect timing.

THE VISION | We wanted a really relaxed wedding and nothing too formal. We had a few ideas that we really wanted, to get married outside, eat Mexican food and to use bright colours. So we did lots of searching into venues that could make these requests possible. That was the biggest struggle as we found most venues did hold a wedding license or you had to use their caterers.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Being in the wedding industry I knew a few of the wedding suppliers I wanted to use, so that part was easy. Mr and Mrs Unique's website is great for sourcing suppliers with a difference and great for inspiration. Pinterest was also great for DIY ideas and being able to form an idea of what we wanted. But it was hard to get that venue that could accommodate these things. We looked at numerous vineyards, pieces of land and had quotes for tipi tents, but they didn't seem right. Once we found our venue everything just fell into place.

BUDGET | We didn't want to spend more than £10,000 on our big day, I think we probably went a little bit over, I couldn't say how much but we saved by doing a lot of things ourselves.

THE VENUE | After all our venue searching I remembered a place I delivered a wedding cake to a couple years back and we decided to take a look. So we went along to Nether Winchendon House, it had amazing gardens to have our humanist wedding in. There was a lovely terrace to have our first drinks and speeches on, you could use your own caterers -it ticked all the boxes. It was such a beautiful place to get married and we got the venue a week before the wedding so it was perfect to set up all our wedding decorations as they take a long time to put up and arrange. Our reception was at their carriage barn which had a bridal garden which was great as we had a sack race, photo booth, coconut shy and pinatas for us to play after dinner while we waited for our evening guest to arrive.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was from Allure Bridals and I knew I didn't want bridal shoes so I found some sandals from Dune.

FINDING THE DRESS | I really struggled to find a wedding dress; I didn't want anything to formal or uncomfortable. The dresses I liked didn't seem to suit me and I really didn't want a big dress. I looked on Pinterest and found an American company called Allure Bridals so I checked out their stockists and there was a store close to me that stocked them, so I went along and found my dress!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Ben really struggled to find a suit he liked too, we were shopping one day and popped into Next to get a suit for a friend's wedding - and we stumbled across this light grey-blue suit which matched my sisters bridesmaids dress and the succulents in our flowers. He matched it up with a peach bowtie from Mrs Bowtie and tan brogues.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | I walked down the aisle to the Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses, while we signed the register we had The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice and we walked out to Bob Marley - Could You Be Loved. During our ceremony we sang afternoon delight from the film Anchorman. Ben's cousin Leanna read A Recipe for Marriage and my bridesmaid Jenny read The Future by Emma Salmon.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My sister Olivia was maid of honour and friends Jenny, Leanne and Laura were bridesmaids. They all were given their own colour and wore corsages on their wrists and flowers in their hair, they looked beautiful. We also had our nieces Jessica and Madeline as flowers girls.

THE FLOWERS | The first time I saw The Flower Fairies' flowers I knew I wanted them to do my wedding, Charlie is amazing- her knowledge is incredible and she totally made my floral dreams come true, they were exactly what I wanted and the David Austin roses smelt beautiful. They were my favourite thing about our wedding and tied all our bright outfits together perfectly.

THE CAKE | I did my own cake table, which I probably wouldn't do again if I knew better. We both had so much to do and didn't really appreciate that. We had rustic buttercream cakes places on tree stumps which were decorated with fresh flowers. I couldn't resist the friends 'he's her lobster' cake topper either!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Binky Nixon was our wedding photographer, Binky and Sally were amazing and captured so many great and memorable moments from our wedding day. I love looking back at our photos!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We didn't do much for our ceremony, as the gardens looked beautiful, we got married under a willow tree so that was our beautiful backdrop, and we hired white chairs. On the terrace we had margaritas and Mexican beers for our first drinks. We had a Mexican feel with our taco truck and bright colours, so we kept it going with our decorations. I made paper flowers and paper flags to put up around the barn. In the bar area I made lace flag style bunting. We used vintage plates for dinner and made some hessian cutlery pouches with pom poms. The amazing Alex from Sew by Alex made these gorgeous fabric pop name places, bride and groom serviettes so we didn't get covered in tacos! Alex also made some lovely keepsake gifts for our flower girls and parents. We hung festoon lights up in the courtyard where our evening hog roast was.

THE HONEYMOON | We went to Taormina in Sicily for 10 days which was such a beautiful place, a cliff side buzzing town with a cable car down to the Mazzaro beach. The food and drink was incredible and there was so much to do and see. We are not ones for sitting still for too long!!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | We had quite few memorable moments; our ceremony is something I will never forget, Zena our celebrant created the most personal ceremony it was about Ben and I and it was just lovely, she did an amazing job! It wouldn't have been the same day without her. We just had so much fun and it was so lovely having all our favourite people in one place. I loved playing games in our bridal garden, the sun was shining and it was just so relaxed.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Do what you want, not what others want you to do, even if it's a not traditional and your parents just don't get it!

Do hire the best wedding photographer you can - you won't regret it and after all, the pictures and memories are what you're left with!

Don't lose sight of what you are planning; it's about you and your other half throwing a party to celebrate your love for one another.
