You want to DIY something for your wedding, but you're not sure what. You're hardly a Martha Stewart-level crafter, so you want something simple. And you are super busy-so cross out anything that takes out a lot of time. Basically, you want a project that will have a lot of impact and look as professional as possible, while still being realistic. We give you the perfect DIY to-do: the mighty place card. Place cards not only guide guests to their designated seat, they also help continue your theme through to your tables and give your centerpieces a little extra oomph in the style department. Here are 10 DIY centerpieces to inspire your own projects!

Above, geometric details are super hot this year. Make these gem shaped place card holders and fill them with sparkly goodness! The gold glitter will play off the metallic vases you use for your simple arrangements.

Above, cut out your friends' names in paper napkin rings and pop them up for a playful touch.

If you are having a destination wedding or just love vintage post cards, these place cards (above) are just for you! Write the names on a piece of washi tape (although we recommend choosing a lighter color tape than the one used above-just to make seeing the name easier for guests).

Having a really whimsical, colorful event? Balloons have been such a major trend this season, from aisle decor to photo backdrops. For your DIY project, tie small balloons to chic place cards and float them above napkins dusted with large felt or tissue paper confetti (below).

For smaller weddings, fold paper place cards into an envelope shape and tuck a personalized note to them inside, leaving just their name showing. An idea like this is a meaningful touch your guests will remember and appreciate.

For weddings where wine is going to be front and center, provide your guests with a decorated coaster (above). This modern DIY involves dip-dyeing cardboard coasters into bowls of food coloring, creating unique, imperfect designs around the border.

Or perhaps your wedding is all about the foodies. For a meal-centric event, use a sprig of rosemary and hearty napkins to welcome your guests with a clean, contemporary statement.

For garden weddings, embrace the season by using fruits or flower-inspired cards. Above, paint ombre watercolor stripes onto basic white place cards and then slice citrus fruits for holders. Or use vintage seed packets to create a welcoming array of escort cards (below).

Want a brilliant DIY place card/bridal shower favor combo? Go to your nearest thrift store and hunt down some fabulous vintage brooches. Attach them to place cards, and all of a sudden you are the crafty authority to all of your friends!
