Natural & Beautiful Wilderness Woods Wedding

Natural & Beautiful Wilderness Woods Wedding

I must admit I actually found this very wedding venue when I've planned mine and G's wedding for fun. The woodland setting is so very magical and made for one very unique celebration. I have been soooo eager to feature a wedding set here it's untrue.

WWW readers Eva and Mark were married on the 6th of September 2014, with a church ceremony followed by a reception held in a gorgeous tent by the Arabian Tent Company at the Wilderness Wood.

Eva and Mark wanted to create a simple day with great food and music. By choosing their top priorities it made planning all the more efficient. Eva looked stunning in her flowing gown and veil, while Mark donned tweed and the maids were pretty in green. Their natural yet meaningful day was just perfect.

Thanks so very much to Photos By Si for sharing these brilliant photographs with us.

THE PROPOSAL | We cycled to Paris together from Brighton, on the way back we stopped in near to Monet's House and Gardens. We stayed on a very beautiful farm, it is there that Marked popped the question, to which I answered 'yes'.

THE VISION | Two important things for Mark and I were the church service and the venue afterwards. We love worshiping together at Southover, so we were pleased when Steve agreed to help us tie the knot there. We had got to know Emily and Dan at Wilderness Woods and we love what they are doing there to try and establish a sustainable woodland and self reliance school for education and learning at all ages. We knew the wedding was a good way to support them, so it was the perfect venue for us.

We wanted a simple day, with good food and good music and that is what we focused on.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Mum and Dad helped a lot, which was great. We would have Skype conference calls and discuss finances, food, decorations, music and toilets! Mum and Dad helped us make the day enjoyable for everyone, I think without them it would have been a lot more rough around the edges, as Mark and I are pretty easy going. Mum and Dad came over quite a few times to visit venues, taste food and attend dress fittings. It was quite stressful, but lots of fun.

THE VENUE | Church: Southover Church in Lewes. Reception: Wilderness Woods, Hadlow Downs, E.Sussex.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES |White leaf Bridal Boutique for the dress. Necklace was a family piece. Shoes from Modcloth (online retailer). Handbag from Snoopers Paradise in Brighton.

FINDING THE DRESS | I went with another bride when she was looking for dresses, we went to a high street chain, it was a disaster. All the dresses were huge! The changing room had around 6 brides-to-be running around with their friends, they were playing loud cheesy love songs, to top it off, when a bride found 'The Dress', a bell would be rung and they played a ridiculous song whilst everyone gathered around to tell her how fabulous she looked in her enormous white dress! Not what I had in mind.

A couple of months later I made 3 appointments at shops in Brighton, 2 of my bridesmaids came down with my Mum. White Leaf was the second shop we visited, and it was wonderful. You are able to pick and choose aspects from the different dresses that you try on and then you can play around, adding different accessories (sleeves, sashes etc.), the whole thing is private and you have your own room and assistant. We went to the 3rd shop to confirm that we liked the White Leaf best, then decision was made.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Mark had a lovely tweed suit made to measure from Victor Valentine. The company was recommended from a work friend. They are good value and the material and finish is lovely. They threw in an extra waist coat for the best man and enough buttons for the groomsmen to add to their suits, completing the look.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We chose a bible reading and a close friend read a poem.

The music at the ceremony was from a band composed of our close friends, we chose 2 traditional hymns and one modern worship hymn. Although not everyone knew all 3 songs, everyone enjoyed the music.

A school friend, Kerry, played piano during the signing of the register.

The entrance and exit music were through MP3, we choose pachebelles cannon in D for our enterence and Make a Home for our exit music.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | All in pastel green, bridesmaids dresses from Etsy, a retailer in China. I was quite nervous about this, but couldn't find what I wanted else where. This worked out okay, 3 of the 4 bridesmaids needed to get the dresses adjusted to fit, but they looked beautiful on the day.

THE FLOWERS | By 'Go Botanical' from Brighton, really loose and complemented the pastel colours of the wedding.

THE CAKE | Marks and Spencers - kept a couple of things simple!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Great friend Simon Mills, did a brilliant job.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Mark put made some centre pieces for the tables, and used pyography to detail our initials on them - looked fab. We collected jam jars and used them to hold candles on the tables. I made bunting to decorate inside the venue.

The rest of the décor was thanks to Arabian Tents who did a fabulous job of transforming the indoor and outdoor space.

THE HONEYMOON | We spent a week in Barcelona - absolutely amazing. The first 3 days we spend in a tree house in a forest north of Barcelona and then we rented an apartment in the city for the remainder. We enjoyed the countryside, the culture and the food.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | ! Everything!

From getting ready with friends, getting the car to the church with Dad, the ceremony, the meal, it was all incredible, the speeches, the band. It was so much fun!

I remember when we arrived at the church and Jax (one of the bridesmaids) said to me I've ripped my dress, indeed she had right up the middle - we just laughed. Then walking down the aisle - seeing all our friends and family, I thought I was going to start crying and not be able to stop, but from somewhere there came a composure that I had been praying for and I was just so happy. I remember squeezing Mark's hand during the vows cause I thought he was going to cry, he just about held it together.

Afterwards the drive to the woods in the car was great, because it was just Mark and I and we had lots of time to chat.

The meal was great, I really enjoyed our first dance and then I managed to dance for most of the rest of the night! The weather held and I think people enjoyed the woods, the zip-line in the dark, the music, the sausage BBQ and the jazzy porta-loos!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Plan well ahead of time and pick a few things that are really important to you, for us the ceremony, the reception venue, the music and food. Then don't worry so much about other things, for us we didn't worry too much about cake, videos, hair, clothing.
