Morning you gorgeous creatures!

My goodness am I pleased it's Friday and my goodness have I got a serious dose of pretty to show you, courtesy of incredible wedding dress designer, Sally Lacock.

This morning, Sally's gonna be talking us through how to work lace if you're a boho bride. Whether your wedding's looking more on the vintage side of life, or a bit more country chic or full-on boho (just how we like it!), there's every chance you'll have thought about lace like, a lot. Delicate, vintage lace defines the clothes of the free-spirited bohemian era. It's romantic, nostalgic and utterly feminine.

Sally Lacock is known for her timeless, vintage inspired dresses and is an expert at working with lace. For Sally, using quality lace is key to creating timeless, romantic dresses that capture the nostalgia of the bohemian era.

So without any further ado, let's hear Sally's answers to the boho bride-to-be's most common lace-related queries and concerns...

A lace dress can add a lovely nostalgic mood to a wedding, evoking the romance of a bygone era and lending a sense of the eternal to a memorable occasion. But if you're hesitant about head to toe lace being a little too much, look for something with a bit of a modern twist on classic lace. For our Lavender wedding blouse (in the photo above) I've layered sheer silk georgette over lace to give a very subtle lace detailing. The result is a fresh and delicate look that hints at the intricate patterns of lace. If you want to keep the lace subtle, pair it with a plain skirt, like our Bay bridal skirt (also above). Or if you're feeling a bit bolder, you could try it with a lace skirt. Our Mace bridal skirt (below) is inspired by an Edwardian riding skirt and is made from beautiful scallop lace. You will find that taking the lace detailing away from your face will really lighten the look. Vintage wedding dresses are wonderful and have inspired a lot of my designs. However because many of the ones that survive have been tailor-made for the bride, it can be difficult to find one to fit or even that can be altered to fit. You will also often find proportions are all wrong for our modern eye. Necklines are usually too high, waists sit in the wrong place and busts are too big. This is not only because fashion has changed, but undergarments have too. Brides have also changed in proportions. During the Edwardian era most brides were between 18 and 23 when they got married and thus, often much smaller. If you're lucky enough to find a real vintage lace dress that has not turned to dust, a good dressmaker might be able to alter it to give you a better fit. But it will only work if the fit is not too far off in the first place. In most cases, the better solution will be to have a dress made to measure. It will flatter in all the right places and have modern proportions without sacrificing on authenticity. I'm passionate about sourcing the right type of lace for the particular era to ensure the dresses have a truly vintage, romantic feel to them. If expertly worked, it is possible to achieve a gorgeous authentic vintage look that fits to perfection. I am a big fan of floral garlands which particularly suit a country or outdoor boho wedding and look wonderful with lace. Many of our brides choose to accessorise with these as they produce such a relaxed, natural look. I often recommend pieces made from vintage wax flowers and vintage millinery flowers as the colours have a softness that is difficult to find in modern items. Fresh flowers can be woven in too. It really is about personal taste and the type of wedding you are having. But do take the whole look into account and consider how you want to wear your hair. Decorated combs will only work in hair with enough fullness and body. If you have short or fine hair you may want to go for a band or a garland that doesn't need securing. There really are no fixed rules. You can top off a simple dress with a wild flower garland or a jewelled crown. Your choice will reflect your personality and that's all that should really matter.

Massive thanks to the lovely Sally. Sometimes it's just real good to hear it from a profesh, right!?

So go forth beautiful brides and embrace the lace, love it in abundance, love it on you, love it with headpieces... Just LOVE IT!

Nothing adds to a boho bride better than a gorgeous dose of romantic lace. Forever and ever, Amen.

Peace + Love
