Layering Moisturizers? Why You May Need More Than One

Layering Moisturizers? Why You May Need More Than One

via

We're always looking for opportunities to think outside the box. Today we want to touch on a topic that is starting to pick up steam in the beauty world: layering moisturizers. For years, many of us have lived peacefully with the notion that one moisturizer will do the trick in keeping our skin supple and hydrated. Unfortunately, this is not always true. Our skin goes through so many changes and is at the mercy of uncontrollable elements (age, weather, hormones) that can compromise our moisture levels. The moral of the story? Sometimes you gotta double up! Not sure when you should and/or how to go about it? Check out these tips!

To Layer or Not to Layer?

There's a time and a place for layering moisturizers. If you have mature skin or naturally dry skin that can't seem to retain moisture you could be a candidate for double moisturizing. Your skin would benefit from an extra dose of hydration and doubling up will ensure your moisture will last all day (and night!).

Mature skin could also benefit from a little extra moisture as, over time, it becomes much harder to keep skin moisturized. Give your mug a little extra anti-aging love and promote elasticity and collagen production by applying not one, but two targeted creams.

Dry, windy weather can also call for double moisturizing. Fight the cold-weather effects on your skin by adding an extra dose of hydration. Trick your skin into thinking it's summer by keeping it supple and soft!

Moisture Method

If you're going to enter into a life of layering, take note of these application tips:

● Be sure your skin has been thoroughly cleansed and toner and serums have been applied prior to reaching for the moisturizers.

● The first moisturizer should be a lightweight emollient that absorbs quickly (we love SkinCeuticals Emollience).

● The second layer should be your regular, daily moisturizer that specifically targets your skin's needs. At night, your second layer can be a restorative night cream that will rejuvenate your skin as you catch some Zs. We recommend products like L'Oréal Paris RevitaLift Daily Volumizing Moisturizer and/or Lancôme Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Cream. For nighttime, try L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream.
