We personally met Sam last year at the Retreat Gatherings workshop in Rome, Italy. Sam is such a personable and welcoming person, we weren't surprised to see how well she got on with everyone there including our wonderful couple Jacqui & Trebor who travelled to Italy just to elope! Why do you use film? " I began my photography journey on film many years ago, I loved being in the dark room and watching the images I had taken appear on the paper. Then digital took over my wedding work, but recently I have returned to film with a broader understanding of the medium. I love the variety of film, to be able to have control over how you want your images to look, rich or creamy tones, gorgeous depth and beautiful memories."

Why do you love to shoot weddings? " I love the details which are so carefully planned, the shoes, dress, florals, stationery... I love the couples and their day of romance, where this moment is all about their love, hopes and dreams... I love the symbolism of the wedding ceremony, the vows and promises... I love the emotion of the day, the laughter, tears and happiness... And I love to capture all of this and present it in a most beautiful and tangible way."

What keeps you inspired? " I am constantly inspired by the work of other film photographers, especially the gorgeous images I see on Wedding Sparrow. But I can also find inspiration on a walk, reading a novel, listening to some music... an historical novel could spark an idea of a shoot or a visit to an art gallery could inspire a bridal portrait or wedding dress image."

What can you offer Wedding Sparrow brides that's different to other photographers? " Firstly and foremost is the images that I produce on film, beautiful, romantic and soft. I look for those guarded moments, those little glances, the details of the dress, images which capture the essence of the day and lovingly presented as fine art."

What part do you love most about a couple's big day? " The couple portraits. To spend that time with a newly married couple is such a privilege and to be able to capture some gorgeous portraits of them is so exciting - I will be looking for great light and stunning backdrops as well as capturing intimate and loving little touches."
