I Can See A Rainbow.

I Can See A Rainbow.

via

If you are undecided on a colour scheme then why not have a bit of everything like Hannah and Nick? I'm a fan of mis-matched bridesmaids and this way all of your best girls can choose a shade to suit. Incorporating all the colours of the rainbow also means you can go to town with your bouquet and Hannah's is particularly pretty.

I also enjoyed reading about the food aspect, as a guest I would definitely be impressed by spiced barbecued joints of lamb.....and the cake of course.

Now then, if I was to choose a shade for myself to wear I think it would be the coral. Or maybe the yellow? Hmm....perhaps the green?

Happy Tuesday lovelies.

Hannah The Bride: My friends would tell you that my philosophy with shoes has always been that when I find a pair I like, I buy them in every colour, so I guess it was no surprise to my bridesmaids when I told them I wanted one of them in every colour too! Getting the girls' dresses right was really important to me and the jewel tones of their gowns, custom made by Milly Bridal, set the palette for the rest of the day. Our florist Jackie was really enthusiastic about the girls colourful bouquets and I was so pleased with the results - five beautiful bouquets matched to their dresses with contrasting ribbons, with my bouquet composed of the flowers from each of theirs.

Being a typical girl, I must have tried on about 50 dresses before finding the dress that I'd fallen in love with in a magazine just after getting engaged. It was just the right mix of traditional elegance and modern charm - I adore the cut out back and the buttons to the floor, and the delicate French lace on my dress and veil. Jennifer and Jayne at Darcy's in Morpeth, where I bought my Paloma Blanca gown, were fantastic, even sending me off with an emergency garter and hair slide when my delivery from an online jewellery boutique went AWOL! I wore my great grandmothers diamond earrings and bridesmaid Fi very sweetly lent me her grandmothers vintage silver bracelet when mine broke on the way to the church.

Nick got his suit from Reiss which he had altered at a local tailors to accommodate his slender frame. He offset the grey suit with a dark navy waistcoat to stand out a bit. He got his shirt from TM Lewin which do a great range of shirts with extra long sleeves for those bean poles out there!

My Dad was ordained as a C of E priest when I was at Uni so it felt very special to have him perform our wedding in the church I attended as a teenager. It's a beautiful church and having Dad standing at the front with us made the ceremony feel very natural and personal, at times I felt it was just him, Nick and me there - which explains the photo of me grabbing Nick's bum at the alter!

As soon as we looked round our reception venue, Newburgh Priory, Nick and I had one of those moments where we both knew exactly what the other was thinking. It was such a relief to have finally found the perfect place to hold our special day, having looked at a number of other venues that really weren't 'us'. When looking for a wedding venue, or indeed any supplier you're also looking for the right people to work with, and in Paul we knew we had met someone we could trust with our day. He was friendly and funny and even as we had our first look around he couldn't help but give loads of great practical advice about wedding organisation and choosing the right supliers. While we had our marquee on the lawn there is a ruined abbey attached to the side of the priory which can also accommodate a smaller marquee.

When we visited Jonathan and Katrina of Friends4Dinner at their gorgeous countryside home it was another case of finding the right people to place our trust in as well as the quality of their food (which is outstanding!). Their experience in the industry really set them apart, every time we thought of a potential problem they were completely unfazed having seen it all before and had a tried and tested solution. And the food....wow! We wanted something a little more original than meat and two veg so we went for spiced barbecued joints of lamb - it was at their suggestion that the joints were served whole to the tables and one person on each table was left a chefs apron and hat under their chair and given responsibility for carving, which worked really well.

Our marquee was provided by Your Marquees. Henry could not have been more helpful in the lead up to the wedding responding to queries rapidly and clearly. For the decorations we decided to go for Chinese style lanterns as they are an easy and cost effective way to add colour to the room We got these from China (how appropriate!) via ebay in each of the colours for the day. We ended up using a 100 at about a pound each, they were suspended from the ceiling with thread and tiny bulldog clips. We ordered some organza table cloths from Ebay again just to add some more colour. The candelabras were rented from Friends4Dinner and we bought candles to match the colour scheme.

Since Nick is a bit of a film buff the table names were various famous film quotes, sometimes with a passing relevance to the people who would be sat there. So 'we'll always have Paris' for the top table as Nick proposed to me in Paris and Indiana Jones' quip 'it ain't the years honey, it's the mileage' for the table of grandmothers! Nick did all of the wedding stationary himself designing it on a computer and then using a local printer to finish them. I loved our colourful invites and the seating plan he created based on a design by Aubrey Beardsley, knocking a frame and easel together himself to save money. To finish off the tables I put together small bags of goodies for each of the little ones with some treats and a few toys to help keep them entertained, For the favours I made bags of coloured mini meringues.

For our first dance we eventually settled on "At Last" by Etta James. Neither of us are natural dancers and we're really glad that we had even just a couple of hours of dance lessons with Freelance-Dance to put together a really simple routine.

We feel incredibly lucky to have had Paul Santos as our photographer. We loved the photos on his website and he came across as a really decent bloke so booking him was a very easy decision, but we had no idea just how great he was going to be. On the day he kept everything on track, his meticulous planning was clear to see and he even stepped in and gave us a lift to the reception when the best man stranded us at the church by accidentally driving off with the keys to the MGB we'd hired for the wedding weekend (from North Yorkshire Classic Cars)! But when we saw our photos we were completely bowled over - Nick and I are terrible at having our photos taken so how he managed to make us look so natural in those beautiful and at times pretty grand shots is beyond me.

If you asked my friends and family to talk about me for 30 seconds I guarantee the two things that would come up every single time would be my twin loves of shoes and baking, so the cake and my shoes had to be special. I'd used this to justify to myself a pair of designer shoes and I wanted something fun and eye catching that I would wear again, but despite trying REALLY hard to spend hundreds of pounds of a pair of Louboutins or McQueens, I couldn't find any which I loved as much as my bright pink suede pumps from Office, and they were super comfy too. I loved the pop of the bright pink peeking out from under my dress. The cake was by far the most stressful part of the wedding for me, but there was never any question of me not making it myself and I'm so glad I did

As ever, what really made our day was the people we shared it with, some of whom travelled from Singapore, America, Australia and New Zealand to be there. Our familys were fantastic and both Nick's best man Chris and my bridesmaids worked really hard to support us both on the day and in our preparations. My parents hosted a barbeque in their garden the following day to give us more of a chance to see everyone before we headed off on our Mauritian honeymoon.
