Un destination wedding à Paris, un superbe couple afro-américain nous fait partager leur choix de se marier à Paris, leur histoire, leur amour. Une réception typiquement parisienne sans tomber dans le cliché, le tout avec délicatesse et simplicité. Cette élégance et cette simplicité est un peu la marque de fabrique du duo de photographes choisis pour immortaliser cette belle journée j'ai nommé Loove Photography !

Aaron and I grew up less than a mile from each other but because we lived on opposite sides of a busy street, we did not really grow up together (as children, we didn't really cross the street). While we attended the same middle and high schools and had some of the same acquaintances, we were in different grades and not especially close. In fact, we were even in the same city-wide gospel choir together (he played saxophone and I even had a solo) and have no recollection of each other. Our families have known of each other for some time (i.e. I was good friends with his cousin, his uncle was my elementary school piano teacher, another of his cousins calls my father Uncle Jesse, etc.). Aaron even mentioned that he admired me in high school and thought about me from time to time after we both graduated. He says "I was always there."

Aaron et moi avons grandi à moins d'1,6km l'un de l'autre, mais parce que nous vivons aux cotés opposés d'une rues très passante , nous ne en nous sommes pas rendus compte (en tant qu'enfant nous ne traversions pas la rue). alors que nous fréquentions le même collège et le même lycée, avions des fréquentations en commun, nous n'étions pas du même âge. En fait nous étions aussi la même chorale gospel ( il jouait du saxophone et j'ai soliste) mais nous n'avons aucun souvenir l'un de l'autre. Nos familles s'étaient rencontrés à quelques occasions( j'étais ami avec son cousin, son oncle était mon professeur de piano en primaire, et un autre de ses cousins appelait mon père " oncle Jesse " ... )

Aaron a admis m'avoir remarqué au lycée, et avoir pensé à moi de temps en temps lorsque nous avons été tout deux diplômés. Il dit régulièrement " j'ai toujours été là " .

It wasn't until the Winter of 2009 that we resumed contact via Facebook. Aaron was returning to the United States (Detroit, MI) from having lived in Germany for 2 years while on a General Motors' work assignment. I was living in Michigan but preparing to move to Columbus, Ohio for a new Marketing job with Victoria's Secret. We began dating shortly thereafter and pursued a long-distance relationship since then (we finally got together and now in Cleveland, Ohio). I learned later that while in Germany, he was hoping to come back and find a wife. I was praying for the same thing. The story had parallels to the story of how my grandparents (father's side) found each other (only the new millennium version J). My grandfather was also in Germany for WWII praying to meet someone and at the same time, my grandmother was dreaming of him. When he came back to Ohio, my grandmother noticed him on a street corner and recalled a scene from her dream. They were married for over 60 years before he died in 2009.

Ce n'est qu'à l'hiver 2009 que nous avons pris contact via Facebook. Aaron revenait aux Etats-Unis après avoir vécu en Allemagne pendant deux ans ans pour le travail. Je vivais dans le Michigan mais je m'apprétais à déménager à Columbus dans l'Ohio pour un nouveau job en marketing pour Victoria Secret. nous avons commencer à nous fréquenter peu de temps après et avons dès lors entretenu une relation longue distance. j'ai appris plus tard qu'en Allemagne, il espérait trouver sa future femme à son retour. Je priais pour la même chose. Notre histoire a beaucoup de points communs avec celle de mes grands parents, mon grand-père était également en Allemagne pour la seconde guerre mondiale, priant pour rencontrer quelqu'un , et au même moment, ma grand même rêvait de lui.

Quand il est revenu dans l'Ohio, ma grand mère le remarqua au coin d'une rue, et se souvenu d'une scène de son rêve. Ils ont été marié pendant plus de 60 ans, avant qu'il décède en 2009.

I have loved Paris since I was a kid and I can't trace it to any particular moment. I believe I was born with it. My father and grandmother both shared the same sort of love (it's wonderful that I was able to bring my father to Paris for the wedding... his first time out of the country). In fact, before I ever took a French class, I used to make my parents call me Avril when I was quite small (no idea how I even knew what it meant). I was finally able to visit for the first time in 2011 and the trip confirmed my adoration. If a person and a place can ever share a soul, I would say that that is what happened to me. I am fairly well traveled but Paris was something special. Aaron and I knew we wanted to have a destination wedding and discussed various beautiful places but ultimately, he said we should get married somewhere that means something and chose Paris because he knew how much I loved the city. For our honeymoon, we visited some of his favorite places (Lucerne and Interlaken, Switzerland) among some other destinations (Amsterdam, St. Anton, Frankfurt). He's wonderful.

Depuis enfant, j'ai toujours aimé Paris et je ne sais pas dire à partir de quand exactement. Je pense que je suis née avec. Mon père et ma grand mère partage cette même attirance pour la ville, C'était merveilleux de pouvoir emmener mon père à Paris pour le mariage ... Sa première fois en dehors du pays. En fait, avant même avoir pris des cours de français je demanda à mes parent de m'appeler " Avril " (je ne sais même pas comme j'ai su la traduction) . J'ai pu visité Paris pour la première fois en 2011, et ce séjour a confirmé mon adoration pour cette ville... si une personne et un lieu pouvait partager une même âme, je pense que cela serait mon cas. J'ai beaucoup voyagé mais Paris a quelque chose de spécial. Aaron et moi savions que nous voulions un " destination wedding " et nous avions réfléchi a différents superbes lieux. finalement nous avons opter pour un lieu qui voulait dire quelque chose pour nous, et il savait combien j'aime Paris .

Pour notre voyage de noce, nous avons visité nos endroits préférés :Suisse, et parmi d'autres destinations !: Amsterdam. C'était génial.

Tell us more about your wedding day / Votre mariage

Our wedding was GORGEOUS! We actually planned for a wedding weekend and everything turned out perfectly. We all had dinner at Dans Les Landes Friday evening. We did a tour of Versailles on Saturday. Aaron and I both went our respective groups on Saturday night - nothing too crazy though. The wedding and reception were at Chapelle Expiatoire and Laduree (Champs Elysees) respectively on Sunday, April 7 (April in Paris...in April...lol). Between the wedding and reception, we took pictures and arranged for our guests to have a guided bus tour of the city. Monday, we had a farewell brunch at Le Pain Quotidien. Everything was magical and absolutely perfect !

Notre mariage était splendide ! Nous avions organisé un mariage sur le weekend et tout s'est parfaitement déroulé. Nous avons tous dîner à Dans Les Landes de vendredi soir. Nous avons fait un tour de Versailles le samedi, pour avec nos groupes respectifs nous avons passé la soirée, rien de fou non plus. Le mariage a eu lieu à la Chapelle Expiatoire et La durée (Champs elysée) respectivement le Samedi 7 avril . entre le mariage et la réception nous avons fait des photos et organisé pour nos invité un tour guidé de la ville. Lundi, un très bon brunch au Pain Quotidien . Tout a été magique et absolument parfait !

Your Best memories / Votre plus beau souvenirs

My shoes were fab. 6 1/4″ heels and gorgeous. Okay, now for some real memories.

Mes escarpins étaient fabuleux, de 16 cm et magnifiques . Ok pour la plupart ce n'est pas un vrai souvenir...

I have so many wonderful memories of that day. Honestly, it was magical. I replay it in my mind often. One of the most special memories was during the wedding when I sang (a song called "All is Said and Done " by Beyonce and Marc Nelson. I was so nervous and the song was the very last thing to happen during the ceremony. It was a complete surprise to Aaron and it had been crazy keeping it a secret. The harpist had sent me music via email that I could practice to and I had done so for a few weeks before hand. Anyway, I wasn't sure it would even come out but it turned out so well and he got very overwhelmed and even shed a few tears. At a few points, he was so overwhelmed he couldn't contain himself and started to sing with me. Many of our family members and friends cried as well.

J'ai aussi de magnifiques souvenirs de cette journée. Honnêtement c'était magique. je me rejoue souvent ce jour. Un des moments mémorables a été lorsque j'ai chanté une chanson : "All is Said and Done " par Beyonce et Marc Nelson. J'étais si nerveuse et la chanson était vraiment la dernière chose de la cérémonie. ça a été une surprise totale pour Aaron. L'harpiste m'avait envoyé la chanson par e mail pour que je puisse m'entraîner quelques semaines avant.

I also fondly remember the reception. It was great to have such an intimate reception in such a beautiful room as the Salon Castiglione in Paris. I knew that was the salon as soon as I saw the pictures. The street lights from the Champs Elysees and the candle lights on the tables gave the room such a pretty glow and our reception had only 20 people total so it was great to just laugh and talk into the night with parents, loved ones and friends. We had considered eloping but I'm so glad we decided to do it this way because I couldn't have imagined such a special moment without our closest family and friends.

Je me souviens également de la réception. C'était génial d'avoir une réception si intime dans une si joli salon : Castiglione à Paris. j'ai su que ça serait ce salon dès que j'ai vu les photos. Les lumières de l'avenue des Champs Elysée et les lumières des bougies sur les tables donnent à la pièce une belle atmosphère, nous n'avions que 20 invités au total , ça a été un merveilleux moment à parler, rire, avec nos amis. Nous avions au pré-mariage (elopement) mais je suis heureuse que nous ayons décidé de procéder de cette façonn je ne peux m'imaginer ce moment si spécial sans notre famille proche et nos amis.

One other great memory was having my makeup and hair done while looking at the Eiffel Tower. Our room faced the beautiful building and the balcony opened right up to see it. I remember telling myself "April, take this in...take this in." It was surreal. Our guests, many of whom had never been to Paris, were enamored the first time they saw it light up at night as they could see it from their windows but looking at it the day of the wedding was splendid. I remember going out on the balcony to take pictures in front of it, once I was dressed and seeing my husband to be hailing a cab on the ground below me. I dived back in to the room (which isn't easy to do with all of the undergarments and the dress on) as I didn't want him to see me before the wedding.

un autre très beau souvenir et de m'être faite coiffer pensdant que je regardais la tour Eiffel. Notre chambre faisait face à ce magnifique monument et le bacon positionné idéalement pour le regarder. Je me rappelle m'être dit " April, on y est, ...on y est " C'était irréel. Nos invités, beaucoup d'entre eux n'étaient jamais allés à Paris, sont tombés amoureux la première fois qu'ils l'ont vu s'illuminer.

je me souviens m'être rendu sur le balcon pour prendre des photos juste devant une fois habillée et après avoir vu mon mari appeler un taxi au bas de l'hotel.

Finally, my husband promised not to be boring in his vows...lol. I thought it was so cute because I would always talk about how we must be vigilante to keep the sparks between us. We got engaged in the Dominican Republic at sunrise on the beach, had an engagement photo shoot in San Francisco after a lovely trip to Napa Valley and of course, got married in PARIS! Plus, we love to travel, dine out and do fun things. I'll let you know how it turns out but so far, so good. We've had a wonderful first year.

Mon mari m'a promi de ne pas être ennuyeux avec ses voeux . Je suis toujours très touchée de voir à quel point mon mari est vigilant pour conserver l'étincelle entre nous. Nous sous sommes fiancés en République dominicaine au lever du soleil sur la plage, avons eu notre séance engagement à San Francisco après un séjour à Napa Valley, et biensur nous nous sommes mariés Paris. nous adorons voyager, dîner , et faire des choses amusantes. Je ne sais pas de quoi sera fait l'avenir mais nous avons eu une première année fabuleuse.

Some advices

My biggest piece of advice to brides is to take it all in on the day. Someone told me that and it was the single most wonderful piece of advice anyone gave me so I'm passing it along. It goes by so quickly and even I don't remember the exact details of everything, although I was making it a point to do so. I took some time to write in my journal afterwards so that I could capture the experience. Things really do get hazy.

One other bit of widsom - take the time to interview planners. You can get a really good idea as to whether or not you will be able to work with them in a brief telephone conversation. Don't just rely on their website or written recommendations.

Des conseils

Mon plus grand conseil aux futures mariées est de profiter de toute leur journée. ça passe si vite et même si je ne me souviens pas de tous les détails , c'est important pour moi d'essayer. J'ai pris le temps de raconter cette journée dans mon journal, ainsi j'ai pu capturer cette expérience. Les choses deviennent vite floues.

Un autre conseil : prendre le temps de discuter avec les organisateurs. Vous pouvez avoir une très bonne idée et na pas pouvoir l'expliquer correctement dans une courte conversation téléphonique. ne vous contentez pas d'écrire quelques recommandations.

Wedding Planner : Fete in France. Nancy LaTart was wonderful! We interviewed several planners in advance, gave them all a very detailed idea of what we were looking for and even asked for references. We ultimately decided on Nancy and Fete in France and it was a great decision. Nancy was professional and helpful but also super sweet and ensured that everything went smoothly.

Photographers : Loove Photography (Alexandre and Sonja). They were great. We were thrilled with our pictures. Some of my favorites are attached.

Videographer : Timothee Callec. Does a great job on the trailer video and takes direction well. Be sure to ask that he capture lots of footage, however. Otherwise he may not capture everything, as he weaves together clips to make a lovely montage video. Fortunately we had family members there that got everything for our files.

Hairdresser: Sonja Stein Benhamou. She did a good job. I did trials beforehand and was pleased with the result. Bonus: she was also one of the photographers so she could touch me up before taking photos.

Venue : Chappelle Expiatoire. This place is BEAUTIFUL! It also has an interesting history.

Makeup Artist : Sanni Sorma was awesome as well. My makeup was flawless and I don't say that often because I'm pretty good at doing my own makeup. She was fantastic!
