Succulents and Corals, A Desert-Themed California Wedding

Succulents and Corals, A Desert-Themed California Wedding

via

Eileen and Andres' quintessential California wedding is just dreamy.

A desert-themed wedding, infused in corals and succulents, it was the perfect palette for a sunny day on Hidden Oaks Retreat in Rancho Cucamonga.

Photographed by the wonderful Marissa of Peterson Design and Photography (who also designed the invitations!) the day included Mexican eats, succulent favours, papel picado bunting, and a beautiful al fresco bash...

The Theme

The theme was a Spanish Desert Wedding with lace, succulents, Mexican food, and the outdoors as inspiration. Our colours were coral, white and succulent greens, and our flowers were succulents, ranunculuses, billy bobs, and freesias. All the decorations and favors were DIY. Succulents were given as favors and helped guests find their table. The materials we used were burlap, cardstock, hemp string, and various coral colors.

In Three Words

Joy, community, and beginning.

The Music

Processional, Two Doves by The Dirty Projectors. Recessional, Excuses by The Morning Benders. First Dance, To Whom It May Concern by The Civil Wars.

Favourite Moment

The whole ceremony and being announced as Mr. & Mrs. Reyes for the first time!

The Photography

We picked our photographer because they had the vision of showing the true meaning of our wedding day. Which was to show the holy commitment made and enjoy ourselves with family and friends.

The Refreshments

For dinner, we had buffet style gourmet tacos. Our wedding cake was a three tier cake with red velvet, carrot cake, and strawberry, with a English buttercream and decorated with real mini succulents. We also served lemonade, iced teas and had a coffee bar.

Advice for Other Couples

A low budget wedding can be done and still look and be amazing. Time and research is important. DIY if you have the family, friends and resources available. Keep looking at different vendors, and don't settle. Also, be flexible. For example, I chose flowers to fit my color palette not by what type. Some flowers cost doubled when not in season. Pick flowers in season and your color scheme. Search wedding budget tips online. Some websites give you exactly how much you should spend on what items according to your wedding budget.

Isn't it just gorgeous? I think succulent green and coral might be a new favourite colour combination. And I just adore the cut out bunting - so fun! Did you spot the too-cute page boy?

Thanks so much to the wonderful Marissa Peterson, and of course to Eileen and Andres for sharing their beautiful wedding day with us.
