Wonderfully Cool Offbeat Portland Wedding At Voodoo Doughnut

If there is one thing I adore when it comes to weddings, it's couples who know who they are and own the hell out of it on their wedding day! If your a bit kooky, maybe even a bit of a sci-fi nerd, incredibly posh or wonderfully over the top, then by God still be that on your wedding day! I am pretty confident that one of the top mistakes couples make when planning weddings is trying to fit into some mold that is not their own. It is for this very reason I am smitten with the wedding of Megan Stickney & Nathan Miller shoot by wedding photographer Megan Love Photography. Seeking out something that fit their style, non-traditional and playful, the couple married at one of the Voodoo Doughnut shops in Portland, Oregon. To infuse the couple's true sense of humor & playfulness, one of Nathan's cousin, upon request, dressed as Frank the Bunny from Donnie Darko while remote controlled sharks floated through the reception, which had swings for seating naturally! The result is a wonderfully cool eclectic wedding that is a gorgeous fingerprint of who Megan & Nathan are, not to mention some pretty hilarious & fabulous wedding portraits!

Novella of the Bride...

Wedding Buzzwords ~ Fun, Quirky, Vegan, Low-key, Nontraditional, & Secular

We met in our hometown of Indianapolis, IN in 2004. After dating for almost a year, Nathan moved to Denver, CO in 2005, and then to San Diego, CA in 2010. We managed a long-distance relationship for most of that time, and Nathan finally convinced me to moved to San Diego in 2011. We got engaged in Lassen Volcanic National Park on July 5, 2013. Nathan works as a property accountant, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Radiography.

We knew we didn't want a stuffy, traditional wedding, so we just planned each piece of it based on what we thought would be fun and what we thought our guests would enjoy. We had known that Voodoo Doughnut offered wedding packages for a while. We thought it was pretty funny and joked that we should get married there someday. When we got engaged, we still thought it was hilarious, so why not? A "first dance" and a garter toss just aren't us, so we had remote controlled inflatable sharks instead.

A Little Help From Their Friends ~ We had several friends help us out on the morning of the wedding with last-minute things like putting the name tags on the wedding favors and assembling the Sharknadoes, which was no easy task! Our friend Sarah made the beautiful bridal bouquet. Nathan's cousin Matt agreed to dress as Frank the Bunny for our formal pictures and the ceremony!

Favorite Moments ~ Pausing to look around and realizing how many of our close friends and family members were in one room. That was really special.
