Tropical English Seaside Wedding at The Gallivant East Sussex | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Zahra and Chris tied the knot on the 2 nd of August 2013 at The Gallivant, East Sussex. They wanted a seaside wedding with a tropical twist and an international party; sounds amazing right?

They injected some of Zahra's West African heritage into their day too; with Zahra's House of Mooshki incorporating African fabric, origami birds in African wax fabric and music was played on the Kora during the ceremony.

I so love all of the fun seaside décor, the hydrangea bouquet and that cake.... mmm.

Thanks so much to the utterly brilliant Marshal Gray Photography for sharing his photographs with us today.

My earrings and headdress were by Victoria Fergusson.

For the actual dress design, I fell in love with the Elizabeth dress design from House of Mooshki and felt the lace would complement the Vlisco fabric the best. The House of Mooshki team were incredible and loved the challenge of working with the different fabrics - it is a very special feeling knowing that your wedding dress is customised for you.

Our close friend Rosie read us a personalised poem, which we had never heard before, titled 'At the Shoreline'. My sister Safia read an extract from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince".

At the beach reception, we had tiny kites given out to every guest and the kids were given buckets and spades, amongst other things, to entertain them!

In the marquee for the dinner, the tables were named after four books that were linked to the sea - Amitav Ghosh's "Sea of Poppies", Isabel Allende's "Island Beneath the Sea", Jean Rhy's "Wide Sargasso Sea" and Abdulrazak Gurnah's "By the Sea". Scattered around the tables were seashells with poems written onto them and the place markers were seashells with their names on them. On every place, we'd laid a thank you note, designed by a wonderful company called Asilia.

Chris: A clichéd answer perhaps, but the moment Zahra entered the room to walk down the aisle was the most memorable moment of my life - took my breath away. On a more fun note, someone in the kitchen off the ceremony room dropped a pile of plates at a prominent moment in the ceremony, which actually helped to calm the nerves and bring the atmosphere of fun that we wanted to the wedding!

Ultimately we really treasured being able to bring the people we love together this one time, and being able to show them the appreciation and love we have for them and for each other.
