Local & Seasonal DIY Cotswolds Village Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

WWW readers Georgina and Ed married back in October 2013 in the beautiful Cotswolds. They wanted their wedding to be home made with locally sourced seasonal produce.

Georgina customised so many aspects of their day, from her lovely Coast wedding dress to the bridesmaids shoes and her hair comb. She also arranged the pretty flowers, made the silk bouquets and crafted confetti. WOW.

There was scrumptious food, stylish attire and a lot of love.

Thanks so much to the brilliant Delia McDonagh Photography for sharing her gorgeous photographs today.

The Dress + Accessories... I bought my dress from Coast, and then altered, customised and beaded it myself.

My veil also came from Coast, but it was a light ivory colour and the beading around the bottom was broken with sections missing. I love restoring beautiful pieces, they always feel so much more special. I got a substantial discount (which is something to consider for brides on a budget) knowing I could fix it easily. I tea dyed the veil and (luckily, because tea dyeing is notoriously hit and miss) it ended up a beautiful vintage cream colour and matched the dress perfectly. Everyone thought it was a vintage piece.

Ed is 6'2" and I'm only 5'4", so I bought some super high heels from Schuh. They were 'nude' enough to work as wedding shoes, but glittery enough to contrast my understated dress.

My hair comb was a combination of two separate pieces. One I bought and then didn't really like once I got it home, and the second was a small pearl and crystal beaded headband I found in a vintage shop. I bought a metal hair comb and wired the two pieces together onto the comb.

My bracelet was by Jon Richard at Debenhams, and my earrings and necklace from John Lewis. I also bought a gorgeous 1930s deco fur stole thinking that it would be cold, but on the day the weather was so beautiful that I never even needed to wear it. It's a beautiful piece though so I'll need to come up with another excuse to wear it. I wore red Hunter wellies for most of the reception. They were a present from Ed on the morning of the wedding. Since we moved out of the city he'd been trying to get me to buy a pair of wellies and I had resisted. I went to load the cake into the boot of the car on the morning of the wedding and found the wellies sitting in there. They matched our wedding cars.

Ed bought a beautiful shirt from Thomas Pink. It's so important not to forget about the little details like shirts and shoes for the boys. It's easy for them to get overlooked during the planning process but, especially as Ed was wearing a normal suit, we didn't want him to feel as though he was dressed the same way he dresses for work every day. I made buttonholes for the wedding party out of some sprigs of fresh heather, berries, and some vintage feathers. I bound them with simple brown twine, it kept them rustic.

I found the Audrey Hepburn style bridesmaids dresses on a pin-up clothing website Queen Of Holloway and added big vintage 1950s petticoats.

Also don't pay TOO much attention to wedding 'trends'. It's great to be inspired by what you see in magazines and blogs, but weddings take so long to plan that there's no way to successfully interpret 'this season's' dress or décor, as by the time the big day comes around the images you were first inspired by are "so two years ago!". Just go with choices that you love, things that make you happy, and you can't go wrong.
