California Attorney General Kamala Harris is engaged to be married to Los Angeles lawyer Douglas Emhoff.

As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, Emhoff, Harris' boyfriend of one year, proposed to the attorney general in her San Francisco home late last month. Harris told the newspaper that while the pair hasn't set an exact date for their wedding, they plan to have a small ceremony within six months.

"I don't believe in long engagements," Harris said.

According to Harris spokesman David Beltran, the couple met on a blind date set-up. They plan to split their time between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Harris was elected as the state's attorney general in 2010. Prior to that, she served as San Francisco's District Attorney.
