#142: Midnight Shimmer

Happy Monday lovely ones! Did you all have a gorgeous weekend? I've just stepped off the plane back from a sunny weekend in Dubai celebrating our anniversary. I even got an upgrade, thank you Mr B!

A couple of weeks ago as part of my Blogger Ambassador role for Brides The Show, I wrote a feature for the Bloggers Bar about timeless weddings. Knowing that many of you want to embrace current trends, yet create a wedding that looks as stylish today as it will in 10 or even 20 years time, I posed a question. How do you design a wedding that combines current fashions and on-trend details with classic style? You can read the full post here, but today I wanted to share some of my own inspiration for creating a fashionable-yet-timeless wedding style.

For me, palette is the number one priority - bright, bold colours look fab today, but can date quickly. My top pick for a timeless palette is navy & gold, it's rich, warm and ultimately classic, but with some clever twists it can be bang on trend too! Sequin table linens are a great way to bring a touch of sparkle - with suppliers now popping up in the UK you can bet this is going to be one of 2014 hottest trends. Especially in soft, matt gold tones. A hint of pattern works wonders; stripes are bold and modern but also classic and elegant - use for ribbons, stationery and even bridesmaids dresses to add a dash of personality. Candlelight is one of the most primitive sources of light, we find it comforting and warming and adds cosiness to any celebration. In 2014 we're seeing a trend towards tall and elegant candlesticks, rather than big candelabras or little votives, which I'd argue never went out of fashion!
