We have another spectacular wedding of Steven and Allison done by the incredible Laura Jane Photography. Steven and Allison's Loving Lowveld Wedding took place at Likweti Lodge outside of Nelspruit. Although it was a June wedding, one will never even notice any signs of winter in the beautiful Lowveld bushes. A bush wedding never disappoints and Laura Jane captured this day beautifully. Steven an Allison is sharing their story with us:

{I Propose} - Elaborate on how the two of you met or on how the proposal went down.

We first met in Nelspruit whilst still in high school (different schools) through friends, but we were more of accomplices than anything else, just greeting each other when we saw one another. Then I (Allison) moved down to Port Elizabeth where I finished high school and planned to start varsity. Steve moved to PE in 2006, after deciding to study at NMMU and we met up once again through a mutual friend. We started seeing each other more often, and one thing led to another, and before we knew it we were an item and had moved in together!

We dated for about 4 and a half years before we got engaged. It was one of the most romantic proposals ever! I had just come back from Scotland after visiting family and Steve had organised that we go to Elephant Whispers in Hazyview for the morning and then spend the evening in the Kruger Park.

We woke early on a Saturday morning and headed for Elephant Whispers. The morning was spent learning about and spending time with the elephants. To show how amazingly intelligent these creatures are, at the start of the 'tour' the guide selected a hand full of people at random (both of us were included in the random selection), and we were introduced to one of the elephants by name and fed him at the same time; we were told that he would remember each of us by the end of the morning after everything we got to experience with them.

On returning from the ride, the guide asked the people who were chosen earlier to please stand in front of the elephant in an order different to that which we were introduced to him.

So all of us stood in a row, the guide dropped a hat of the floor and then asked the elephant to please give the hat to Allison, and he did exactly that; this was followed by him repeating the whole process with every person in the row. Finally they came to Steve and rather than the guide dropping the hat on the floor, he put a basket (with the ring in it) into the elephants trunk and asked him to give it to Steve - at this point Steve got down on one knee and proposed in front of everyone there! I felt like I couldn't get him off the floor quick enough to say yes! It was one of the best days of my life!

{Bride & Prejudice} - Express some memorable experiences you had during the planning

We had decided to give honey and homemade peri peri as our gifts at the wedding, but after a whole day of chopping up chilli's and burning in places people shouldn't be burning - with not much peri peri to show for it - we decided against the idea and stuck with honey!

Having to drive all the way to Durban (from Jhb) to buy Steve's suit - he fitted it about 4 months prior and fell in love.

The post office being on strike when we really needed invitations to get where they needed to be so we could receive rsvp's on time.

{My Fair Wedding} - Describe an event that you feel was unique or even funny.

Realizing I (Ali) needed to be in the back seat of the game drive vehicle (driving down to the ceremony), which was quite elevated and not very comfortable to a bride wearing a well fitted wedding dress, and having my dad pick me up to get me in.

Having Pete (groomsman and master of ceremonies) tell an unplanned joke to stall everything a bit that had everyone thinking 'Where's this joke going?'

The night before the wedding our priest told us he might not be able to make it.

Our cake was very late, it arrived just before it needed to be cut.

My cousin passed on some advice and I think it was the best I could have received: every now and again take a deep breath and look around - take everything in, all the people, all the surroundings, all the scents, your husband and how you feel... Everything you can in that moment and commit it to memory consciously. You'll be able to look back with such clarity.
