How To: Go from Girly to Glam

How To: Go from Girly to Glam

It’s a cold, hard truth that intention and reality don’t always see eye to eye. While we’d love to spend time creating a red carpet worthy look every morning, the truth is most days we’re pleased to squeeze in a swipe of mascara and dab of concealer. A minimal, busy-morning routine is an essential for every girl, but sometimes, once the workday’s over, a gal needs to step up the glamour.

To show you how easy it is to transition from day to night, we created two looks—a feminine, fresh daytime face, and a sophisticated, stylish nighttime look—modeled by one of our muses, blogger Carly Heitlinger of The College Prepster. The best part about our glam look? It only adds four quick embellishments to your existing daytime makeup.

Girly

When creating a look for daytime, professional makeup artist Ashley Rebecca wanted to create a soft, feminine look that Carly would wear during her regular routine.

Here’s what Ashley used to create the look:

1. Foundation: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in Shade 5

2. Concealer: Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Fair

3. Bronzer: Giorgio Armani Sheer Bronzer in Shade 5

4. Eyeshadow Base: Mac Paint Pot in Painterly

5. Eyeshadows: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad in Blush

6. Eyeliner: L’Orèal Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner

Pro Tip: Apply your pencil liner with an eyeliner brush, stippling it along the lash line for a natural-looking thin line.

7. Mascara: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara in Black

8. Lips: Yves Saint Laurent Golden Gloss in Golden Praline

Glam

Elevating Carly’s girly look to glamorous sophisticate only took three products and a few bobby pins.

1. First Ashley amplified the eyes with thicker black liner using Lancôme Artliner 24H in black.

2. Next, to further define the face, she filled in Carly’s brows with Giorgio Armani Eye Brow Defining Pencil in Shade 3.

3. To add the glam, Ashley filled in Carly’s lips by using a red lip liner to create a cupid’s bow and then applied Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in Shade 400.

4. Ashley completed the look with a topknot. To recreate this hairstyle pull your hair into a high ponytail, split it into two sections, and tie the sections into knots (almost like a chain link fence) until you reach the end of your hair. Once you’ve created your knots, wrap the hair around a ponytail holder and pin it in place.
