Sadly, the time has passed in South Dakota to get out and nab some photos in a sunflower field. Typically, mid-August you can find several fields across the state that are in full-perfect-sunshiney-yellow bloom.  However, the wonderful part about these bright flowers, is they will be back again – and as beautiful as ever.

This year, the bloom was a bit late. Many of the fields have turned and are ready to harvest. But, since many couples are planning for their wedding next year, I think sunflower fields in this gorgeous state are worth mentioning as they would make for a great shoot on your wedding day or for engagement photos next summer. As I mentioned, the fields can be found across the entire state, between Pierre and Brookings, down to Sioux Falls and across the west as you near the Black Hills.

They make a brilliant backdrop!
