Idyllic Inspiration at The George in Rye

Idyllic Inspiration at The George in Rye

via

Happy Thursday brides-to-be!  Are you ready for your weekly dose of pretty, contemporary inspiration? This week’s styled shoot comes from talented stylist & florist Tiggy Johnson of Idyllic Days and our very own b.team photography expert Anneli Marinovich.  Shot at one of my favourite venues, The George in Rye {remember my post here?} they set about creating a series of inspirational ideas to compliment the gorgeous interiors of the Ballroom and Benson Rooms, frequently used to host beautiful weddings.  Tiggy put together three different looks to show you how you can transform any venue by picking out different accent colours and styles. Brides, take note!

I can’t decide which of the three inspired looks I like most! The understated elegance of the vintage first look combines antique details with contemporary florals, for a modern romantic take on the vintage trend. The focal point of the second look is the incredible hand painted cake by Cakes by Krishanthi, this blue & yellow look adds a fun & fresh pop of colour that would be perfect for a summery wedding celebration.  In the final look the deep charcoal walls of the Benson room provide a moody, glamorous setting with just the right amount of bling. Which is your favourite?!

To help you decide, Tiggy explains the styling behind each look.

Very Vintage

The main inspiration for this look was to pick up on the age of the building and the beauty of the period features within the ballroom. I decided on a vintage inspired look. To create this look I used a dusky grey tablecloth with a vintage lace overlay. I chose flowers in shades of dusky pinks, greens, creams and arranged them in assorted old bonbon dishes and placed a top of old books. Surrounding the main arrangements were single stem cut glass vases with pearls intertwined. To finish off the look I used Antique mismatched plates for each setting.

The stationery designed by Lynda Loves was simple yet romantic. The cake designed exclusively for the shoot by Cakes by Krishanthi needed to be simple in colour, using a palette of cream and silver, yet incorporate quite a bit of detail. We coupled it with dusky pink and cream macaroons and cookies arranged on glass cake stands and silver plates, again with pearls draped around.

Hand painted

The inspiration for this look came from the absolutely beautiful hand painted “de Gournay” wallpaper that adorns the walls of The George’s ballroom. I wanted to enhance the colours and make the yellows and blues in the wallpaper stand out. We also wanted to show off the height in the ballroom so decided on tall candelabras incorporating both tall and low floral designs.

The blue water glasses from Couvert Hire and the plain white china helped to bring all the colours together. I was keen for the cake to reflect the surroundings, so we tasked Krishanthi to hand paint the cake to match the design of the wallpaper. Being the super talented lady she is the cake matched perfectly.

Hollywood Glamour

The Benson room is perfect for intimate events and I wanted to show how you could host an opulent, glamorous wedding or dinner party within the setting. To create this look we used a colour palette of golds and creams and accessorised with ornate glass wear. I designed a tablescape using roses, hydrangea, lissianthus, carnations and gypsophila to cover the full length of the table. Glass gold edged plates were used coupled with gold and cream vintage side plates. Gold rimmed glasses helped to top off the glamorous style – one of my favourites from the day!

The cake for this look was simple and elegant with two white tiers and a simple ribbon with a crystal clasp. We placed cream cookies and macaroons onto glass wear and placed these onto a gorgeous gold sequinned tablecloth. The stationary was elegant and simple incorporating the ‘g’ from The George’s branding.
