The art of wearing rashguards, or as we like to call them, fash guards, in the summer months is not a foreign idea these days. These covered, long-sleeve swimsuits have become part of many fashionable ladies' lifestyles including DJ and blogger Hannah Bronfman of HBfit and "it girls" Nasiba Adilova and Katalina de Solis. We have to thank Lisa Moore of Cover for that. She put her mark on the swimwear industry in 2007 and has since changed our mindsets so we swoon over her graphic and artistically printed long-sleeve swimsuits.

This May and June NM is joining forces with the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) in raising awareness about this deadly form of cancer, and Cover certainly comes to mind, not only because of its unique fabric-Protec Swim Jersey fabric-with UPF 50+ coverage, but also because of Lisa's own experience with melanoma in her family. Shortly after launching the line, Lisa's younger sister, Lindsey, was diagnosed with melanoma after a routine mole-mapping session with her dermatologist. "The reason that I first started Cover was to prevent my skin from aging," said Lisa, but her sister's melanoma diagnosis refocused the message on creating awareness. "We both used to lay out all the time. We are American Indians, and we get really tanned, so it was never an issue that we would burn easily. My sister was so lucky to catch it so early."

Cover partnered with the American Cancer Society for a season, donating all the proceeds of its white swim shirts. It was equally important to spotlight the brand in fashion magazines that continue to spread the message of protecting skin in cool, chic and fashionable ways. After features in O, The Oprah Magazine (Oprah sported a canary yellow swimsuit on the magazine's July 2014 cover) and Teen Vogue, the brand's audience grew quickly-think chic Cali surfer girl with paddleboarding friends.

While the idea of wearing a fash guard has definitely caught on, Cover has expanded the collection to include long-sleeve bandeau and sport bras and comfortable workout leggings. Lisa is also not a stranger to the art world and collaborates often with renowned photographers on her capsule collections. It doesn't get much chicer than having a Gray Malin beach photograph printed on a ballerina neckline swimsuit, or a Steve Wrubel palm tree print on an effortless swim top. "The collection has the passion and the function, and you don't have to always subscribe to the function, but you're getting it anyway," explained Lisa.

Did I mention how much we are dreaming of a seaside vacation right now?
