Quirky & Stylish Lovely Big Party Wedding

Quirky & Stylish Lovely Big Party Wedding

Claire and Rob planned their August wedding like they were planning a party. The result? A relaxed, fun day where food and drink were plentiful.

Claire looked totally stunning in her tiered Claire Pettibone gown with her hair in pretty waves while Rob had a dashing look in a bow tie and waistcoat combo.

The lush pink hued blooms and live music really made the wedding their own.

Thanks so very much to Matt Brown Photography for sharing these sublime images.

THE PROPOSAL | Down on one knee at the top of a snow capped mountain whilst skiing in Schladming Austria.

THE VISION | A relaxed, informal wedding with no waiting around where every guest has enough food and drink all day long. These few guidelines we hoped would make it really easy for people to have a lot of fun in celebrating our special day with us!

Rob's Facebook status on the morning of our wedding kind of summed up our vision for the day. "Today Claire and I are having a lovely big party with our family and friends. At the start of it we are going to get married!"

We have been to a lot of weddings where the formalities got in the way of fun so we decided that although we wanted all the bits that make up a wedding we were careful to keep things simple so that nothing got in the way of us and our guests having a great party.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | After returning from our ski trip we quickly started looking online for the kind of venue we might like to get married at. We had two criteria, firstly we wanted to get married in our beloved Derbyshire and we also wanted somewhere unique that would make our day really personal. We quickly stumbled upon Stancliffe Hall and after being shown around we both knew it was the right place for us.

Only having five months to plan our wedding meant that once we decided on the venue we had to quickly plan the rest of the wedding. Having limited time was actually a blessing as it focused our decision making and meant we did not worry about making fast decisions.

THE VENUE | Stancliffe Hall, Darley Dale, Derbyshire. Private residence that opens for a limited number of weddings each year. The venue has now stopped doing weddings.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Kristene dress - Claire Pettibone. Rachel Simpson shoes. Hair vine from Etsy. Earrings -Debbie Carlisle. Pearl bracelet - a gift from the groom on the wedding morning.

FINDING THE DRESS | The White room - Sheffield. Chloe and Georgia at The White Room made the whole experience feel so special. Nothing was too much trouble and they gave honest and professional advice.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Ted Baker trousers and waistcoat. TM Lewin shirt. Barker shoes. Mrs Bow Tie bow tie. 1930's Tissot pocket watch (gifted by best man on the morning of the wedding).

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Ceremony and Reception drinks: A Touch of Class String Quartet.

Readings: 'I want to grow old with you'- Adam Sandler. 'I like you' -Sandol Stoddard Warburg.

Post dinner drinks reception - Claire's younger sister Laura Ashby is a professional singer and provided and amazing set that got everyone on their feet.

Evening: The Domino Band.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | The dresses were handmade by Yvonne at 'Making it For You'.

THE FLOWERS | JJ's Flowers.

THE CAKE | Jacksons the Bakers, Chesterfield. Local bakers and friends of the family produced an amazing vintage style cake with three different layered tiers of Carrot cake, Victoria sponge and chocolate fudge cake.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Matt Brown. Matt was exactly what we had been looking for in a photographer, relaxed, non-formal and fun. On the day, like promised Matt made us feel relaxed and had a lot of fun with us and the rest of our guests. When our photographs arrived they were better than we ever expected even though we knew that Matt was going to do a great job.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Wisteria hung from ceiling beams. Tables; Ivory linen, rose petals, candelabra, gingerbread men name places.
Lace votives, candelabra, white wicker hearts in the ceremony.

THE HONEYMOON | We left Stancliffe Hall on the Sunday lunchtime and headed to the Lake District for 3 nights. We are hoping to go on a full honeymoon later in the year but a few days away in the Lake Districts was just perfect. We had time to relax, open our cards and presents and remember all that happened during our wedding weekend.

We stayed at the Gilpin Hotel & Lake House which was awesome. Staying in a garden room we had a suite with our own pond and cedar hot tub. Being the Lake District in the summer it rained quite a lot - not that this phased us - you kind of expect it in the Lakes. The food was amazing and the spa overlooking the lake was a real treat.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The last hour on the dance floor - everyone was up dancing, the band were on fire....

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Simple really, just plan the wedding you want. Make sure your guests have enough food and drink and above all keep it relaxed. We were able to have such fun on our wedding day because we decided that it was a party where everyone could just go for it and have a great time. That way even mini last minute alterations just go in to make up the story and don't become a problem!
