Once our DoC introduced us and we entered the Owl's Nest, we went straight into our first dance. All images by Pink Shutterbug Photography Considering we'd just spent 15 minutes (give or take) with all eyes upon us as we completed the marriage rites, I can't explain why the same pairs of eyes watching us dance felt so awkward, but it did.

Once everyone had their fill of dessert, people started to say their goodbyes and make their way out to whatever plans they had for the rest of the day. (There was a pretty big college football game going on in town that night, so some folks had tailgates to get to.)

As the third course was cleared and the conversation began to ebb, our guests' glances began to stray to the dessert table in the far corner of the room. Photos by Pink Shutterbug Photography I had deliberated for quite some time how to display our cupcakes.

With a big, happy sigh of relief we made our way over to the pathway between the fountain and the Owl's Nest to hold our informal receiving line. Here is a non-news flash for you: Marriage is hard. Some newbies may be a bit bewildered when they realize that committed relationships are not the magic elixir for all that ails you, but long-term couples have likely already come to this sobering realization.

Since the vows were, of course, the only thing we didn't go over as part of the rehearsal, after they were said the rest of the ceremony felt like a downhill slide all leading up to the kiss. After we'd hugged our last guests on their way to the Owl's Nest, we hopped in the waiting golf cart and scooted on down to our cottage to take those posed getaway pictures that we'd wanted to do earlier. All's well that ends well, yes?

Even though our plan had been to greet our guests as they arrived, the transportation mix-up meant that almost everyone had already arrived to greet us, instead. Either way, hugs and happiness overflowed our intimate gathering.
