Fulfilled my civic duty for the next 2 years. Went through a criminal trial. I'd previously received a jury summons close to 10 times but most cases were dismissed... they got me this time. Apparently, there's a bit of a glitch in the software (?!), so if you're unlucky, you'll get picked almost every year like me (in Salem). I had never gotten this far but out of 70 jurors asked to arrive to the courthouse this morning at 8am, several were dismissed or excused... then there were around 50 remaining and after the voir dire and another culling, I ended up in the 12 selected. The whole process was actually interesting... It's a bit exhausting mentally. At the very least, the jury was able to agree after a couple deliberation periods and we were able to finish a little after 5pm with a guilty conviction. Feeling positive about the verdict and feeling like it was very fair and that the decision made is doing good for safety in the community.
