Stone Fox Bride

It's been a while since I opened up the doors of my home in celebration — the last time people gathered together in honor of someone I loved was this past winter after my Dad died, and it was a gruesome blurry three day Shiva packed with smoked fish platters and tears and Kaddish prayers and snow outside and I often ran into my childhood bedroom to bury my head into the pillow and wail "why why why" and read emo poetry by Emily Dickinson and Wordsworth. Now seven months later it's summer and the sun is shining and even though my heart feels like it's recovering from major cardiac surgery life goes on and basil is blooming on my patio and the wound is the place where the light enters Rumi says, babies are being born and one of my best friends is due to give birth in the Fall. Still on a high from yesterday's shower I threw in her honor catered by @charcunyc— we conducted a serious crystal sharing circle, feasted on homemade banana bread smeared with compound honey butter and leek + purple potato fritattas, dipped farmers market veggies in green goddess dressing and beet dip and hummus and and drank cold brew cardomom coffee with coconut milk and showered the stone fox mama-to-be in gifts and love and good vibes galore and it was awesome. Grief is one violent motherfucker; when it captures you in it's claws, it hurts like shit and the pain seems neverending. Yesterday reminded me that wait around long enough and this too shall pass. Love wins. Always.
