100 Layer Cake

@bloomen.co is over, showing us how to create this beautiful centerpiece arrangement today. Follow along the steps to make one on your own! (Photo: @marithamae). “Here in Singapore we love throwing small dinner parties and gatherings in our apartment for our friends. Having a lush centerpiece for the table can contribute to the overall mood while beautifying any space. To accompany the arrangement, we made copper candle holders of different heights out of 3/4 inch copper pipes. We measured the heights we wanted, and used a pipe cutter to cut them. The candles were then fitted into the pipes snugly. For added stability, the copper fittings can be attached to a wooden or concrete base. A tip on making an arrangement beautiful is to keep things a little varied, but not overcomplicating things. Achieving a good mix of flower shapes, sizes, colours and textures will help add more visual interest in the centerpiece, to impress your guests and get them talking! Materials: - Vessel - Floral shears - Chicken wire - Water proof tape - Floral frog (optional) - Lazy Susan (optional) Main Ingredients: Roses Lisianthus Matthiola Carnations Scabiosa Astrantia Spirea Eucalyptus Instructions: 1. Prep your vessel. Roll a piece of chicken wire to form a grid for the stems and secure it with waterproof tape. You can add a frog at the bottom of the vessel for added stability. Fill the vessel with water. 2. Create shape. Create the shape of your arrangement by adding your foliage and taller flowers like the matthiola here, leaving ample space for the other flowers. 3. Add focal blooms. Add the roses to the arrangement, playing with varied heights to achieve a more natural and organic look. We like to have some flowers nestled deep in the arrangement to create more depth. 4. Add accent blooms. Repeat the same with the other flowers, working with one flower at a time. Cluster flowers of similar colours to create focus areas. This prevents the arrangement from looking too spotted and unnatural. 5. Finishing touches. Add in the smaller filler flowers, textures and delicate stems to finish the arrangement. Add more foliage to cover any visible mechanics such as wire and tape.”
