10 years ago, back when I was single, living in the East Village, and working as a babysitter and freelance blog writer, I came to Big Sur for the first time with Marisa. Marisa, a Northern California native, was a soon-to-be-single-mother, living in Williamsburg, and 8 months pregnant with my now goddaughter Eden. What a difference ten years makes. Husbands, boyfriends, businesses, babies, weddings, divorces, heartaches, houses, highs, lows, the good and bad, the sacred and the profane, we've returned to the mountains and the ocean to celebrate my 41st birthday, and mourn the death of my Dad. Sometimes you just have to cross the country and collapse in the arms of a soul sister who gets you like no other. There is nothing — and I mean nothing — like the love of a True Blue Bestie.
