"Alex and I went back home to visit my parents in Raleigh one weekend, and in the middle of family dinner, we heard a knock at the door. It was Elijah, my seven-year-old neighbor whose family we've been lifelong friends with (in fact, it was my sister and I who helped Elijah's parents get engaged over a decade ago). He was wearing a bow tie, khakis, his church shoes, and his blonde hair was slicked back. I ran to the door and got down on my knees to give him a big hug and kiss and tell him how handsome he looked! I thought they were just stopping by after a nice dinner, but then he handed me a fistful of flowers and adorably asked "can I be your ring bearer?" I thought, uh oh, there must have been a misunderstanding. I'd told my mom for years that I dreamed of having Elijah in my wedding, but I wasn't even engaged! I confusedly said, "um yes! sure!" and then turned back to look questioningly at my family sitting behind me. When I turned around, there he was....
