Harriet & Stuart's Relaxed & Bohemian Summer Party Wedding

Harriet & Stuart's Relaxed & Bohemian Summer Party Wedding

via

Morning Lovelies! Hope you all had a great weekend. We have a beautiful barn wedding to share with you today, captured by the fabulous Ed Godden Photography and featuring a gorgeous Temperley London wedding dress, rustic decor, wild flowers and chilled summer vibes. It is also a wedding that's very close to our Festival Brides heart as the couple actually found their venue on these very festival pages!

Harriet and Stuart wanted their wedding to be really informal, relaxed, rustic, natural and lots of fun. They both love travelling, the outdoors and animals so when they found Patricks Barn on our Venue and Land Hire Page with it's working farm and rural location they knew it was the venue for them. Working with the natural beauty of the venue, they kept the decor simple with pretty rustic and vintage touches, lots of wild flowers and a rabbit theme running through the table plan, table settings and cake.

With Harriet's bohemian wedding dress and flower grown, the multiway pale pink bridesmaid dresses, Stuart's trendy groom style and festival elements such as bell tents and wooden signs, this is a wedding that we think you guys are all going to love.

Harriet talks us through their day....

Ever since Stu and I met we had shared a passion for travelling and see the world, while we had taken shorter trips it wasn't until we had been together for four years that we were able to take longer trip to a further away destination. Our flights to Cambodia were booked for Friday 13 th 2015. The week leading up the trip we were both very busy, stressed and had barely seen each other. Stu and I work for the same company and live together, the night before our flights he rushed off from work without waiting for me, on my way home exhausted and grumpy he text asking me to pick up some beers. When I finally arrived at our flat there were candles everywhere, our 2 house rabbits jumping around and Stuart down on one knee. I said yes straight away and burst into tears... We then had to pack for our 5am flight..

I didn't want anything too traditional and I knew I wanted something bohemian, romantic and ethereal. My dress was from Temperley London and was the first one I tried on! I also had a white long sleeved dress from Fee People that I changed into when we went to the party tent. The Amazing Katherine made my fresh flower head crowns with whites and greens. It tied at the back. I wore a diamond necklace borrowed from my mum and long green tinged pear earrings borrowed from my bridesmaid. I also wore a blue garter my bridesmaids gave to me the morning of the wedding.

I got the bridesmaid dress from Debenhams on black Friday. I wanted something that all the bridesmaids would feel comfortable in so went for multiway dress that each could wear in a style that suited them best. They were pale pink. They also had flower crowns but in pink and green.

Our wedding was held at Patricks Barn in Sussex. As part of my job I organise weekend away summer parties for our company. In 2014 we hired a field and camping site to host that years party. It was a great success, really relaxed and a lot of fun. When we got start thinking about our wedding we both remember that summer party and I had another look on Festival Brides which is where we found Patricks Barn.

We knew want something really informal, relaxed, rustic, really natural and mostly lots of fun. We just wanted it to be a big party with all our friends and family. We both love being outdoors and love animals so as soon as we saw Patricks Barn and found out it was running farm we knew it was perfect. Patricks Barn is stunning so we centred all of ideas around making the most of its natural beauty.

We had amazing bell tents from Beautiful Bells. They were incredible. They were decorated beautifully with incredible attention to detail and they were huge and comfortable. Far better than many hostels we have stayed in. Katrina from Beautiful Bells was brilliant from start to finish. We have more guests that we anticipated who decided to camp and everyone was really impressed with them. We had the "after party" in a 7M bell tent. Battery powered candle lights, mini speakers and huge bottle of vodka to keep the celebrations going to the early hours!

We held our ceremony under a beautiful giant oak tree. We had decorated the tree with Lanterns (put up by the incredible Kelly from Not Your Average I Do) and an arch covered in sunflowers (created by the talented Katherine from Katherine Bly) and petals along the aisle. My dad walked me up the aisle with my sister and three bridemaids. It was a very special moment for my dad & I. The week before the wedding it had rained every day, some of our friends and family had encouraged us to move the ceremony inside but we were determined to keep it outside come what may. On the morning of the wedding the sunshine came out (although it was still quite windy and cold.) Half way through the ceremony it did begin to rain but it broke the ice and made everyone laugh as umbrellas started popping up.

Our celebrant Hilary Channing did a fantastic job. We had readings from my sister and Stu's twin brother and had written our own vows. A lovely idea that Hilary suggested was having a wine box that we both place letters to each other inside with a bottle of wine. We left the box open for the rest of the day and asked our guest to write notes of advice for years to come. Each year we will open the box and read one message. On our silver wedding anniversary will drink the wine and open letters we have written to each other.

Patricks Barn is so naturally beautiful that it didn't need a lot decoration. Kelly (Not Your Average I Do) Katherine (Katherine Bly Flowers) and Becky (The Garden Chef) were paramount in helping us with creating our ideal space. I cannot thank them enough!

To pave the way from the ceremony and reception drinks to the barn where we had dinner we hung old vintage photo frames across trees. We decorated the cattle barns with lanterns, fairy lights, hung wild flowers in jam jars across the entrance. We decorated the tables with wild flowers in vintage jars, hessian runners, glow sticks (for the campers), rabbit napkins and straws. We created our seating planning using famous rabbits for each table and framed pictures of bugs bunny/ peter rabbit etc. To pave the way from the ceremony and reception drinks to the barn where we had dinner we hung old vintage photo frames across trees. We also had giant lawn games after the ceremony and a polaroid camera that guests used to take photos of themselves and attached to two vintage giant film wheels.

We took lots of our own props such as a golden rabbits, metal ducks, blue china rabbit and H&S letters from our flat that we scattered around the venue to give it our personal touch.

Becky from The Garden Chef did our cake and it was absolutely amazing! We had so many people compliment it! It was a naked cake with two rabbit toppers ( which our actually our salt and pepper shakers). The bottom layer was carrot, the middle victoria sponge and the top lemon.

The incredibly Katherine Bly did our flowers. We opted for lots of wild flowers of greens pinks and blues and lots of sunflowers. The flowers really made the venue and brought everything together. They were exactly what we had imagined.

We had an incredible photographer called Ed Godden! He captured our relaxed atmosphere in the perfect way. It was exactly what we wanted. He was amazing, friendly, exceptionally talented and a genuine lovely guy. I find having my photo taken very comfortable and Ed made me feel calm and relaxed from the moment I met him. Everything he did was beautiful and well put together and thoughtful even the way the photos were sent to us.

Just after the ceremony. The serious stuff was out the way and we could just relax with our friends in the sunshine (plus a glass of Champagne and a dance in the camping fields!)

Remember it's your day. Hust go with what feels right to you and have fun. Try not to worry or feel any stress and pressure in the lead up to it, after all it's just a day. Whatever happens you will be with the person you love most in the word and all your friends and family (and probably lots of booze) that's already 90% better than your average day!
