Ulvön Wedding in Sweden | Fly Away Bride

Ulvön Wedding in Sweden | Fly Away Bride

via

We have a true beauty in store for you this morning! Mark & Elin got married off the beautiful coast of Sweden, on a lovely little island called Ulvön near Ljungskile. Sharing the day with friends and family, some of which had travelled from the UK, they married at the little church on the island and their reception even ended with a late night dip in the sea! The beauty of the landscape and the heart of this Ulvön Wedding is captured to perfection by Maria Lindeskär.

From Elin

How did you meet?"We met in the summer of 2009 in London in Camden on a night out. It was a lovely summer's evening and by coincidence there was a seat free next to Mark on the terrace in the Hawley Arms. It must have been love at first sight as we've been together ever since!"

Tell us about your engagement!

"Mark tricked me into a surprise trip to Venice - I had no idea at all that we were going away! Mark proposed on a bridge by the water on the beautiful island of Murano, where we were staying."

Can you tell us about your destination wedding, why Sweden?

"I am from Sweden and Mark is from Durham in the north east of England. We both live in London and wanted to have a big celebration to show our UK friends the best of the west coast of Sweden as it's the area we love so much. I think we managed to do that! The sun was up until nearly midnight, the sea was warm enough to swim in and we had a floating sauna at the end of the jetty which proved to be very popular with the British guests! We only saw one venue and it was just perfect. We did not want a grand venue, just letting the surroundings and the nature speak for itself."Did you face many challenges planning from abroad?"The biggest challenge was to planning a wedding in Sweden from so far away, each decision had to be done pretty quickly and it made us a bit nervous! We had to make a lot of decisions remotely and did have to rely quite a lot on trust. We didn't get chance to try the food at the venue, but it turned out to be delicious anyway! We wanted to keep it simple and rustic. One important aspect was for us to showcase the best of Swedish culture so we sang traditional drinking songs in Swedish in the bandstand and all the guests had plenty of time to enjoy the sauna available on the island and a dip in the sea!"What was the best decision you made? "Mark and I decided to walk together down the aisle for our wedding ceremony. This is actually quite commonplace in Sweden, but the British guests found it quite unusual. It felt really special to walk in to marriage together as a team! And it was really special to share the first few minutes together with our bridesmaids and groomsmen before walking in to the church."
