Once you know that the Los Angeles-based brand Co is the shared endeavor of Stephanie Danan and Justin Kern, you understand the name. Co, as in co-founded. But what you can't know right away is that the pair are veterans of the movie industry and bonafide professional film buffs.

To celebrate the fact that we've just added Co's chic and earthy shapes and gorgeously rich fabrics to Nordstrom's Designer Collections, we talked to Stephanie and Justin about their new spring collection and the big screen moments that inspired it.

Co's Justin Kern and Stephanie Danan The Thread: You and your partner in Co both have film backgrounds, so let's look at your spring collection through the lens of movies. Were there particular movies that inspired this collection?

Stephanie: While some of our collections are more literally inspired by a specific film (for example our pre-fall '17 collection was inspired by Days of Heaven by Terrence Malik), the photography of our collection is always cinematic. For spring we used my Andalucian, Spanish and Moroccan background to inspire the silhouettes; a lot of flowing dresses, ruffles and flowered prints. We also gave our suits and jackets more of a sensual feel by working with ruffles on more structured pieces.

This collection has a particular sensuality. We really wanted to focus on that aspect of a woman's life-that while she can have practical clothes that fit her life she should still embody a sense of discreet elegance. Sensuality.

Do you do mood boards? Can we see what was on this season's? If you were to curate a Sunday matinee double-header as a visual or conceptual representation of the mood of Co in general (not just the season), what would be on the bill and why?

Days of Heaven for it's romance and beauty, and for its intellectualism and Dianne's Keaton's feminism.

Who are some of your favorite film heroines?

Diane Keaten in Annie Hall, Jeanne Moreau in Jules and Jim, Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour, Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Lauren Hutton in American Gigolo, Faye Dunaway in Thomas Crown affair, and Ali McGraw in Love Story.

You're from Morocco; what Moroccan film or film set in Morocco is your favorite? The Sheltering Sky. Which piece from the Nordstrom buy should be every woman's perfect Friday night art-film date night wardrobe?
