Today's Vintage Bride comes from event planner, Jill Gordon, and it's always such a treat when we get a story to accompany the photograph.

Helen & Charles, Temple Rodeph Sholom, New York, 1938.

"My grandparents met on a blind double date about a year before their marriage. My grandfather was one of eleven children, and the first to be born in the U.S. after his parents emigrated from Russia. He grew up in Brooklyn, quite poor with parents who spoke no English. He was the wild child of the family, as likely to hang out with the Murder Incorporated gang as he was to go to school, and yet somehow ended up an accomplished attorney. He was quick-witted, loved a good debate and was the life of any party. My grandmother was his ice princess. She grew up privileged, went to private school and was quite elegant, somewhat aloof and verging on melancholy. A curious pair; they were madly in love. I remember them dancing cheek to cheek often in their foyer after dinner, catching a smooch here and there, well into their 70's. They raised two daughters, had five grandchildren and were happily married for over 50 years, through good times and bad."

Thank you to Jill Gordon for sharing your story with us!
