Peek inside this palette and the first thing you'll notice is the endless smokey eye possibilities. Look a little closer and you'll see an equal amount of everyday neutrals perfect for wearing to work, on the weekend, or layered under the sultrier shades. But rest assured that every one of the 12 matte, shimmery and glittery shades in Urban Decay's new Nocturnal Shadow Box, are meant to give you all the tools you need to entice both day and night. Here, a few of our favorite combos to inspire your next nocturnal event.

Smoky Eye Classics

We can't talk nighttime looks without mentioning the smoky. It's dark and smudgy effect oozes with both simplicity and mystery. The double-ended blending/smudger brush (that comes with the palette) makes it easy to nestle the darkest shades in the collection, like Blackout or Armor, right into the lashline and then feather the color out and up, layering if needed. Shake out of your neutral comfort zone with a more colorful (yet equally rich) look. Nocturnal's jewel tones like Backfire (amethyst) and Lounge (emerald) make for stunning but subtle eyeliner looks when the color is kept close to the lash line. Or go for an all-out rock-star effect and wear the shades brushed all over your lids. A few to try: glittery, emerald smoked-out look or this two-toned jewel masterpiece.

Reverse Eye Shadow

A new look that's making the scene this season involves flipping your eye shadow on its, er, lid. Reverse shadow concentrates bold color below your lower lash lines--instead of your upper lids. Just use any of the 12 shadows in the Nocturnal palette to swipe under your lashes (you can also use the shadows as liner!). Try one of the three upside-down tutorials featured here.

Deep Blue Lids

Think your favorite denim or a deep oceanic shade and you get the idea for the dark indigo in this palette. Heroine, an iconic blue, looks equally gorgeous worn as liner, shadow or even a smokey eye. One swipe of color makes it sheer enough for day, while layers of blue make for a more sultry effect (try two-toned or all-over electric). Take your pick!
